Students invited to create cover for zero waste recipe book STUDENTS aged 8 to 14 have the opportunity to design the front cover of a zero waste reci- pe book for children which will be published later this year. The competition, organised by NWAMI International Malta (NIM) as part of its Foodwise Families initiative, invites stu- dents to create an A3 artwork which captures the essence of global f lavours and zero waste cooking while ref lecting on the beauty of cultural diversity in cooking and creative ways to eliminate food waste. Participants are to send or de- liver their entries to the RMHC Learning Centre, Triq Wileg, Qawra, SPB 1922 by Friday 28 June 2024. The winning entry will then be used in the design of the cover of a children's rec- ipe book featuring dishes that are being created during the multicultural zero waste cook- ing workshops which NIM is also currently organising as part of its Foodwise Families initia- tive. Maria Gabrielle Doublesin, President at NWAMI Interna- tional Malta, said, "Through our ongoing workshops, the Foodwise Families initiative is already helping children and their parents or guardians to acquire valuable culinary skills and learn about the food tradi- tions of different people in our communities. Our workshops, which are designed to help foster cultural understanding and appreciation also focus on avoiding food waste. Our wish is for this experience to be shared with an ever wider audience, hence the idea to also create a recipe book with the dishes that are created during these activi- ties." Fostering Multicultural Harmony Trough Zero Waste Cooking Together for a Brighter Tomorrow SUPPORTED BY Sliema street art raises awareness on domestic violence support NO fewer than 14 artists have left their mark on the benches along Tower Road, Sliema, in a collaborative project, 'Me- morial Benches – Faces of Re- silience', unveiled on Monday 20th May 2024. The impactful project, organ- ised by the Eastern Regional Council, which is the Region of Culture 2024, was done in collaboration with the Sliema Local Council and the Com- mission on Gender-Based Vi- olence and Domestic Violence which forms part of the Parlia- mentary Secretariat for Equali- ty and Reforms in the Office of the Prime Minister. Led by Artistic Director of the Sliema Arts Festival, James Micallef Grimaud, this artistic initiative is aimed at honouring the lives of women lost to vio- lence in Malta and has trans- formed these benches into vi- brant street art. Over the past few weeks, Mr Micallef Grimaud conducted a series of workshops, both in- doors and outdoors, in which artists and community mem- bers came together to paint and prime the benches, creat- ing spaces that inspire reflec- tion and awareness. The artists who participated in this project were selected following a rigorous open call for applications on 7 March, which attracted numerous talented individuals eager to contribute to this meaningful cause. Each artist brought their unique vision and skill to the project, working harmoniously under the guidance of Mr Mi- callef Grimaud. The artists are Jack Stewart, Kristina Znakina Andonova, Saima Murtaza, Yuexin Kong, Hun Sun, Andrea Farrugia, John Schembri, Jarek Nalewa- jk, Aurora Invonne Mario, Ma- tas Statulevicius, Jackie Fritz, Marilouis Guy, Sophia Guy and Rhys John Meredith. 'Memorial Benches – Faces of Resilience' is a prelude to the upcoming Sliema Arts Festival, being held from 19 to 21 July 2024. Throughout 2024, the East- ern Region is holding a diverse array of events and activities, including art exhibitions, out- reach programmes, and perfor- mances that showcase the re- gion's unique cultural identity.
