The back facade underwent an innovative
transformation, clad with pink concrete panels that not
only added insulation but also highlighted the original
forms and proportions. This unique cladding extended
to the roof level, contributing to the overall aesthetic.
The organic and curved forms present in custom
furniture were mirrored in these concrete modules,
blurring the line between old and new.
FUNCTION
The main functional focus of the architectural
intervention is on maximising the house's potential as
a family-friendly, open-plan living space. A seamless
connection between spaces, extending generously
to the upper roof terrace, emphasized green open
areas while respecting the original fabric. Hidden
timber units maximised storage, and walls served as
gallery spaces, incorporating natural light.
Craftsmanship and intricate detailing, inherited from
the old structure, were carried forward into the new
design. The home was envisioned as unashamedly
playful, courageous, and refreshingly eclectic,
redefining family living with a unique blend of
vintage and modern elements.
IMPACT
The project's impact extended to various facets,
from the back-faced concrete cladding that acted as
insulation to the extension at the roof level, creating
a green skyline. Careful detailing of bespoke
furniture contributed to the overall aesthetic, with a
particular emphasis on the flooring of the main hall,
inspired by European cathedrals.
