MaltaToday is reproducing the speech the late
Prof. J.J. Cremona gave during a Central Bank
of Malta symposium in June 2011. Chief Justice
Emeritus John J. Cremona was attorney general
at the time Malta achieved independence and
was tasked by then prime minister Gorg
Borg Olivier to draft the Malta Independence
Constitution of 1964.
The speech was later published by the
CBM in 2012 in Landmarks in Maltese
const it ut iona l h istor y: 1849 -1974 ,
edited by Henry Frendo.
