Nearly 200 missiles were launched, according to Israeli army radio. The Israeli military said all civilians were in bomb shelters as the rockets were fired. Witnesses said they saw dozens of missiles flying over central Jordan and the country's state news agency soon announced the temporary clo- sure of its airspace. Earlier on Tuesday, the US warned that Iran was getting ready to launch the attack and Israelis were subse- quently told to "stay close to a pro- tected space". The warning came as Israel's mili- tary said its paratroopers and com- mandos were engaged in fighting with Iran-backed Hezbollah mili- tants after launching "limited, local- ised and targeted raids" against the armed group in Lebanon. The Iranian Mission to the United Nations said Tuesday afternoon that Tehran's response has "been duly carried out," following a barrage of missiles launched at Israel. "Iran's legal, rational, and legiti- mate response to the terrorist acts of the Zionist regime—which involved targeting Iranian nationals and inter- ests and infringing upon the national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran—has been duly carried out," the Permanent Mission of the Islam- ic Republic of Iran to the United Na- tions said in a post on X. The mission said that if Israel should "dare to respond or commit further acts of malevolence, a sub- sequent and crushing response will ensue."
