GOZO minister Clint Camilleri
has denied claims that a tender
for works on Nadur Road went
over budget by around €10 mil-
lion and that funds paid out in
the multi-million tender were
used to pay for work on private
property or on the Qala Saints
football ground.
Responding to questions put
to him by GozoToday, Camilleri
said that while work was carried
out on the retaining walls of the
Nadur Youngsters ground, this
forms an integral structural part
of the public safety of Mgarr
Road. Claims of civil work on
other grounds were blatantly
false.
As to the tender running over
budget, Camilleri said this was
not true and that, if anything,
the work came in below the esti-
mated value. This was also con-
firmed by the NAO.
The project concerns the link
road between Nadur and Gha-
jnsielem, which serves as a main
connection node between the
hilltop village and Mgarr Har-
bour. The road had sustained
major infrastructural damage
over the years.
In its annual audit report re-
leased in December 2024, the Na-
tional Audit Office said the Gozo
ministry did not provide adequate
documentation to justify cost
overruns and the several direct
orders that were issued over the
course of the years by the ministry
under Camilleri. PAGE 3

NATIONALIST Party Member
of Parliament and Shadow Minis-
ter for Gozo Alex Borg has firmly
denied allegations that he exerted
pressure on the Għajnsielem local
council regarding its support for
the controversial Fort Chambray
development.
The accusation was made by
vocal critic Wayne Flask who sug-
gested that Borg may have played
a role in influencing the council's
last-minute decision to back the
project.
