GozoToday is a weekly newspaper focused primarily on Gozo. It hopes to serve as a source of information on business, culture, entertainment and of course current affairs. Gozo has a special charm about it but it is also a bustling Island with an identity of its own. GozoToday is published every Friday and is available to numerous outlets in Gozo and on the ferries that carry so many visitors to Gozo from Malta and beyond. GozoToday MediaToday Co. The sessions will be held at the PN Sub-Headquarters in Sannat. On 27 August, voting will run from 4pm to 8pm, on 30 August from 9am to 5pm, and on 6 September from 9am to 5pm. Earlier in the week, the Com- mission confirmed that it re- ceived nominations for the leadership pposition from Alex Borg and Adrian Delia. Both had earlier passed due dili- gence checks carried out by the commission. Each nomination required the candidate's signature and the support of at least three PN MPs, five members of the Local Councillors' College, ten mem- bers of the Executive Commit- tee, 50 General Council mem- bers, and 50 party members. The Commission will now verify the nomination forms within 24 hours before pro- ceeding with preparations for the election. Only members whose membership is valid up to 27 August at noon will be el- igible to vote. The new leader will be chosen during a General Convention of PN members on 6 Septem- ber. Gozo voting dates announced for PN leadership contest Left to right: Adrian Delia and Alex Borg THE Gozo Federation of Per- sons with Disabilities has taken note of a recent ruling by the Ombudsman, and the Commis- sioner for Education, Chief Jus- tice Vincent De Gaetano, con- cerning a case in Gozo where a student was found to have been discriminated against at school on the basis of disability. In a statement, the Federation said that "persons with disabil- ities deserve better, simply be- cause it is their right to receive services like anyone else — in this case, educational services." It acknowledged that the Edu- cation Department has agreed to amend its practices following the decision, but voiced disappoint- ment that change only came af- ter the case had been pursued. The Federation noted that while progress has been made over time, this case is "only the latest in a series" on the island, where despite fighting for their rights, people with disabilities "continue to be ignored and de- nied what is due to them, even when authorities confirm their claims." It further pointed out that some families remain afraid to speak out, leaving cases of discrimination — particularly against children with disabilities — unaddressed. The Federation said it hopes the ruling will compel author- ities in Gozo to alter their ap- proach, to pay genuine attention to the needs of persons with dis- abilities and take the necessary action to improve their quality of life. The Federation represents six NGOs active in the sector: Abili- ty for Disability Association, Ar- ka Foundation, Gozo Aid for the Visually Impaired, Gozo Asso- ciation of the Deaf, Inspire, and Voice for Inclusion Gozo. NGOs insist Gozo needs to do more to safeguard rights of persons with disability The Gozo Federation of Persons with Disabilities has criticised the way a Gozitan student was discriminated against at school
