A major ecological resto- ration and rehabilitation project has commenced on Għammar Hill, adjacent to the Ta' Pinu Sanctuary, with the goal of strengthening lo- cal biodiversity and creating a more accessible and en- joyable environment for the thousands of visitors who frequent the sacred site each year. The initiative, which cov- ers approximately 8,467 square metres, was an- nounced during a site visit by Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri and Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Elec- toral Manifesto Stefan Zrin- zo Azzopardi. Camilleri described the project as a significant en- vironmental and cultural investment. "This project, which includes the plant- ing of around 900 trees, 900 shrubs, and the restoration of approximately 1,700 cu- bic metres of traditional rubble walls, will not on- ly enhance local biodiver- sity but will also create a more accessible and pleas- ant space for visitors to Ta' Pinu," he said. On Tuesday, Foreign Affairs minister Ian Borg announced that Malta will be- gin offering direct flights from New York starting June 2026. The new service, to be operated by Delta Air Lines, will run three times weekly between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Malta International Airport from June through October.
