MORE than one million pas- sengers used the fast ferry service between Valletta and Mġarr, Gozo this year, marking the highest annual usage since the service was launched, the transport ministry said. By the end of November, the service had carried over 1,150,000 passengers. Accord- ing to the government, the in- crease demonstrates the grow- ing demand for the route and its role in improving connectiv- ity across the Maltese Islands. Officials said the rise in pas- senger numbers supports fur- ther investment in the service. New routes are scheduled to be introduced next year, with ferries expected to operate di- rectly from Sliema and Buġibba to Gozo. This expansion will effectively double the number of sea connections between the two islands.
