JANUARY 24 @ 20:00 - 21:20 Aurora Resounds Teatru Tal-Opra Aurora Triq ir- Repubblika, Victoria, Gozo, Malta Aurora Resounds is the opening event of the 2026-2027 50th anniversary special season celebrating the 50 years of Aurora (1976) and opera in Gozo (1977). Quite naturally, the death of cinema within the Aurora marked a natural transition and evolution as cinema technology became more advanced and sophisticated and moved into specific cinema theatres. Yet, the Aurora with two pairs of fully function- ing projectors stands as a tem- ple and sanctu- ary of cinema heritage on the island. Aurora Resounds will celebrate all of this, with an extraordinary display of cine- ma machinery, memorabilia, and above all, sumptuous musical master- pieces that made the greatest blockbusters so memorable. Aurora Re- sounds appeals to all those who love cinema and cinema music. But it will also be a trip down memory lane for those who can reminisce the golden days of the seventies when the Aurora was being built as the largest commu- nity project on the island. The evening will come with lots of music but also with a powerful narrative of which so many can share. These sessions are open to anyone who can swim and feels confident in the water, with no previous water polo experience required. There is no need to book in advance— just arrive on time, as Otters coaches will be ready to wel- come participants. Please bring swimming goggles, a swimming cap (caps can also be purchased from the coaches for €10), and a Gisap Entry Card. The lecture 'Spinning a yarn: The tradition of weaving' focusing on the history, the culture and the tradition associated with weaving, will be given by Alda Bugeja in the Maltese language. Alda is a weaver and expert in wo- ven fabrics and other crafts related to weaving. She has become synonymous with the art of weaving, owing to her profound skills and knowledge. Weav- ing is one of the oldest crafts practised in Malta and used to be a main source of income for rural households across the Maltese islands. Seating is limited and on a first-come- first-served basis. Priority is given to those who register. Designed to spark creativ- ity and fun, the event offers a variety of engaging experiences for children of all ages. On 31st January, activities run from 10:00 to 12:00, where children can create cool bead designs or take some photos with Cupid and take home a keepsake, followed by an afternoon session from 16:00 to 18:00, featuring unique sand art and hands-on cupcake decorating. What's happening in Gozo Did you know? Ta' Sannat lies in the south of the island of Gozo. The name is probably derived from that of an Arabic-Greek family that moved to Gozo from Sicily. Ta' Sannat is best known for the Ta' Cenc plateau on the edge of the village and its spectacular Ta' Cenc cliffs, the highest cliffs in Gozo. The plateau is typical Maltese garigue rich in flora and fuana. It is also the site of a number of prehistoric remains, including sparse remnants of L-Imramma Temple and three dolmens (made up of, a roughly shaped horizontal limestone slab supported on three sides by blocks of stone standing on end).
