26 | Architecture & Design As curator of Beyond the Bastions, what was your starting point in shaping a narrative around the transformation of the Ospizio site? Our starting point was the belief that the spaces of the new museum are best understood through the concept of hodological space. Derived from the Greek word 'hodos', meaning 'way', hodological space describes the possibilities of movement, whether straight, winding, planned, spontaneous, necessary, or aleatory. Museum spaces, where circulation is essential, are shaped by a combination of factors: security, experience, perception, efficiency, serendipity amongst others. Experiencing a space hodologically is like following a journey: impressions accumulate step by step rather than being grasped all at once, as if seen from a map or bird's-eye view. Hodological space cannot be reduced to a universal, measurable entity; it varies with individual choices and encounters.
