3 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 29 MARCH 2026 THEATRE MADC opens booking for Edinburgh Fringe hit Suspicious Minds Live sound effects, sharp dialogue and two people trying to save their relationship across time and space – Suspicious Minds opens at the MADC Playhouse this April BOOKING is now open at www.madc. com.mt for MADC's latest production, Suspicious Minds – a sharp, funny play about a struggling couple who book a holiday through time and space to redis- cover love. Written by Royal Court playwright Tom Fowler and directed by Justin Kyle Camilleri, this innovative stage produc- tion runs across two weekends at the MADC Playhouse this April. Performed in the style of live radio-theatre, the cast creates the time-hopping world of the play live, building soundscapes onstage through foley sound effects and music as the story unfolds. In Fowler's Suspicious Minds, seeming- ly ordinary British couple Mark and Fran have had a rough year. In a last-ditch attempt to save their relationship, they book a commercial time-travel holiday – taking them from Ancient Rome to an Elvis concert in Hawaii, via Regency Eng- land and 1940s New York, among other destinations en route. The MADC production stars Shaun Rizzo and Thea Costa as Mark and Fran, alongside Myron Ellul and Maya Micallef Engerer who play myriad other charac- ters and provide the foley sound effects that bring the production to life. "Suspicious Minds is unlike anything we've staged at MADC before," says Ste- phen Oliver, MADC's Artistic Director. "It's funny, it's moving and the live ra- dio-theatre format makes for a different and distinctive night out. This is one of those shows that works on every level – a clever premise, sharp writing, brilliant performances. I can't wait for Malta's au- diences to experience it." Suspicious Minds was a standout when it premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017, where critics described it as 'bril- liant' and 'endearing', while also celebrat- ing its 'fun, clever way of staging.' Audiences attending the Friday 24 April performance at the MADC Playhouse will also enjoy something extra – a post-show Q&A with Tom Fowler, in a rare oppor- tunity to go behind the script with the playwright himself. MADC's production of Suspicious Minds by Tom Fowler performs at the MADC Playhouse, Santa Venera, on 17, 18, 19 and 24, 25, 26 April, with all per- formances at 8pm. This production is suitable for audiences aged 16 and over. Tickets are priced at €20 and €25 and are available now at www.madc.com.mt.
