LORNA BORG VASSALLO Patone 485C Pantone Cool Gray 11C Lorna Borġ Vassallo graduated with B.A. in Maltese Law, Economics and Interna onal Rela ons in 1996, Legal Procurator in 1997 and a Masters in European Law in 1998. A er a short me at the Law Courts, she worked in the educa onal sector, teaching Maltese, English, Italian, German and French. She also obtained all necessary qualifica ons for guiding in the said 5 languages and in fact was a lecturer and examiner of Tourist Guiding and French for Guiding at ITS. Languages, along with poli cs, are Lorna's passion and she also has basic knowledge Arabic, Russian, Spanish and Polish. In 2011 she read an M.A. in Transla on and Interpre ng at the UoM. She presently also acts as legal expert of the German language at the Malta Law Courts. Lorna Borġ Vassallo ran for the general elec ons in 2003, 2008 and 2013 on the 12th district. During 2 of the general elec ons she was the first runner-up for by-elec on but no by-elec on took place. In 2018 PM Joseph Muscat invited her to be a candidate for the EP Elec ons 2019. PM Robert Abela officially seconded her nomina on. At the EP elec on she obtained the 3rd largest amount of No. 1 votes from all female par cipants. Lorna Borġ Vassallo has been wri ng in the Maltese daily L-Orizzont since 1999. She also contributed to Il-Kullħadd & The Times of Malta. Her first publica on Il-Ktejjeb tal- Ħrejjef was published in 2006. In 2012 she launched Maltese through English (MTE): a Maltese grammar book a er which she published 4 other books and a CD of the same series. The revised edi on of MTE Book 1 was published in 2016. Apart fromt this, Lorna is no stranger to arts. She produced various theatrical performances (2004-2006) and translated 2 French plays including Molière into the Maltese language. She presented various TV and radio programmes on various channels and worked with TVM newsroom. Her programmes dealt with current affairs as well as legal, poli cal, cultural and educa onal issues. Recently, Ms Borġ Vassallo decided to take up full- me employment with Government en es. She first worked with the Lands Department for some years before joining the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for the Maltese EU Presidency in 2016. There she took part in the prepara ons for the EU- ECOWAS Dialogue (2017), co-chaired by Hon. Vella and the MEET THE CANDIDATE B.A. Leg & Intl Studies, L.P., M. Jur. Eur. Law 'Our Oceans' Conference (Malta, 2017). Her work included prepara ons for the General Assembly of the UN, liaison with Embassies, the Budget document, Memoranda of Understanding and Trea es, as well as prepara on for visits by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the PM and President of the Republic. From 2020 to 2021 Lorna Borġ Vassallo served as a Special A achée at the Embassy of Malta in Germany during the German Presidency of the EU Council. She a ended specialized mee ngs at various Ministries of the German Government and reported various conferences. She also accompanied President George W. Vella in Berlin in September 2021. A er her return to Malta she con nued her work at the same Ministry at the Directorate for Consular Services and Maltese Living Abroad where she was in charge of the prepara on of documents for the President, PM, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Speaker of the House and Ambassadors and was responsible for the implementa on of the Electoral Manifesto. Since 2022 she returned to work with the Joint Office. There she set up the Legal Office. Once elected, Lorna Borġ Vassallo would like to put most emphasis on: Social services, women's and men's rights, more special leave for single people/parents, development & environment, tourism & educa on, foreign affairs, immigra on.
