10 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 22 MAY 2026 CULTURE Photographers launch photography book showcasing Malta and Gozo from above The 204-page hardcover publication, titled Malta From The Air, combines English and Polish text and features images captured from altitudes ranging between 300 and 3,000 metres POLISH aerial photographers Maciej Margas and Aleksandra Łogusz have launched a bilin- gual photography book show- casing, Malta, Gozo and Comino from above. The pair spent five years doc- umenting the islands through drone flights and aerial pho- tography sessions. The 204-page hardcover pub- lication, titled Malta From The Air, combines English and Pol- ish text and features images captured from altitudes rang- ing between 300 and 3,000 me- tres. The project was produced by Polish publisher Margas.Media and distributed by Poland On Air, a publishing brand spe- cialising in aerial photography books. According to the authors, the idea for the album came during what was initially planned as a holiday in Malta. After the ini- tial holiday, the pair visited the island multiple times, as they sought to to document Malta's coastline, fortifications, har- bours and urban landscapes from the air. "It is a small country, but from the air it reveals an in- credible richness of shapes, colours, textures and stories," co-author Maciej Margas said in a statement announcing the release. "We wanted to show Malta in a way that goes be- yond typical postcard images." The album includes aerial images of Valletta, the Grand Harbour, Gozo and Comino, alongside lesser-known bays, agricultural landscapes and cliff forma- tions. Some images were captured us- ing drones, while others were taken during flights aboard a Cessna air- craft. The project also expanded online through a social media page carrying the same name, attracting audiences in both Malta and Poland before being developed into a full-scale pub- lishing project. Margas, an aerial photogra- pher and filmmaker, is known for producing photography albums focused on cities and regions viewed from above. Co-author Aleksandra Łogusz was involved in the develop- ment, production and publish- ing of the Malta project.
