The meeting, held on Monday, 20 July, brought together Cham- ber president Michael Galea, vice presidents Joseph Borg and archi- tect Edward Scerri, and chief ex- ecutive officer Daniel Borg with the minister responsible for en- ergy, the environment and the re- generation of the Grand Harbour. The chamber said discussions centred on the need to strength- en Gozo's infrastructure in a way that encourages new investment, supports higher-value employ- ment opportunities and under- pins the island's economic devel- opment. The delegation also raised is- sues related to accessibility, the potential electrification of ports, the resilience of the electricity supply, the green transition and Gozo's ambition to move towards climate neutrality. The meeting took place against the backdrop of exceptionally high temperatures and increased electricity demand, with the Chamber stressing the impor- tance of long-term planning and sustained investment to ensure infrastructure can meet both cur- rent and future needs. "The realities and priorities of Gozitan businesses must con- tinue to be reflected in the de- velopment and implementation of national policy," the Chamber said, adding that it will continue working with government and relevant authorities to advocate for the island's interests. The Chamber said it remains committed to engaging construc- tively with policymakers to en- sure that Gozo's infrastructure keeps pace with the demands of a growing and increasingly diversi- fied economy. Instead, he said the Ministry for Gozo works closely with the is- land's two main theatres, providing financial assis- tance not only for produc- tions but also for other cul- tural initiatives throughout the year. The minister said benefi- ciaries under the Gozo Cul- tural Support Programme receive financial support of €80,000 per year for a period of three years. Camilleri added that the theatres may also ap- ply for additional funding throughout the year under the Cultural Fund Scheme to support other events and initiatives. He said financial assistance under the scheme is awarded based on applica- tions submitted and the ap- plicable funding criteria. Tabone had requested a detailed breakdown of the budget allocated to indi- vidual productions in both Malta and Gozo, but the minister's reply did not in- clude figures for individual productions.
