Gozo Chamber of Advocates pays tribute
to Judge Emeritus Silvio Meli
THE Gozo Chamber of Ad-
vocates has paid tribute to the
memory of Judge Emeritus Silvio
Meli, who died on 7 September
2026.
In a statement, the chamber
said Meli had been an example
of how justice should be admin-
istered throughout the various
positions he held within Malta's
courts and tribunals.
The chamber also highlighted
his contribution to the legal pro-
fession through years of legal re-
search and publications, as well
as his work teaching students
enrolled in law courses.
"The Gozo Chamber of Advo-
cates pays tribute to the memory
of Judge Emeritus Silvio Meli,"
the chamber said, while extend-
ing its condolences to his family.
Meli served as a magistrate
from 1990 to 2001, then became
a judge and retired in 2019.
He worked in the Attorney
General's office before becom-
ing a magistrate.
Meli specialised in civil law,
authored several publications on
aspects of the law, and lectured
at the University of Malta's Fac-
ulty of Law.
He also served as the found-
ing president of the Fair-Trade
Commission and President
of the National Commission
against Drug and Alcohol Abuse.
