During his visit, Abela met rep- resentatives of the Gozo Regional Committee to discuss how gov- ernment investment could con- tinue to support a higher-value economy and create further op- portunities for Gozitans. The Prime Minister also met representatives of the Gozo Uni- versity Group (GUG), where he discussed the priorities and aspi- rations of students and stressed that young people would remain at the centre of decisions con- cerning Gozo's future. Agriculture also featured dur- ing the visit, with Abela touring the Ramla Valley Olive Grove and meeting people involved in Gozo's olive-growing sector. He highlighted continued invest- ment and improvements in the quality of local produce as part of the renewal of the island's agricul- tural sector. The visit also included a person- al engagement, with Abela meet- ing Ġużeppa and her family to mark her 100th birthday. The meetings come as govern- ment begins consultations ahead of Budget 2027, with Gozo ex- pected to feature prominently in discussions about investment, economic opportunities and the island's future development. Prime Minister Robert Abela has begun a series of pre-Budget meetings in Gozo, with discussions focusing on the island's economy, agriculture and the aspirations of young people OASI Cup Run returns to Gozo for 12th edition THE OASI Cup Run will re- turn to Gozo on 4 October for its 12th edition, as the OA- SI Foundation continues its annual campaign promoting recovery and a drug-free life- style through sport and com- munity participation. The event, which will take place in Victoria, brings to- gether runners and support- ers for a day centred on phys- ical activity, solidarity and recovery. In a post marking Throw- back Thursday, the OASI Foundation shared memories from last year's race, describ- ing the event as one filled with "smiles, energy and excite- ment" while inviting partici- pants to take part in this year's edition. The foundation said the 2026 race will celebrate "12 Years of Running Together for Recovery", reflecting the event's long-running associa- tion with OASI's work in the field of addiction recovery. Registration for the race is currently open through the foundation's website, with participants able to sign up ahead of the October event. The OASI Foundation is a voluntary organisation based in Gozo which provides ser- vices and support related to addiction and recovery. The 12th OASI Cup Run will be held on Sunday, 4 October 2026, in Victoria, Gozo. Registration is available through the OASI Founda- tion's events page.
