THE Labour and Nationalist
parties are neck and neck in
the first MaltaToday survey
since May's general election,
although Robert Abela re-
mains significantly ahead of
Alex Borg.
If a general election were
held now, the PL would score
48.2% of the vote against the
PN's 48%, with small parties
collectively obtaining 3.8%.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister
Robert Abela is most trusted
to lead the country by 44.4%
of voters, compared to 35.1%
for Opposition leader Alex
Borg.
Based on a sample of 835
respondents, the survey was
held between 22 September
and 2 October.
Compared to the gener-
al election, the PL loses 3.6
points and the PN gains 3.3
points. The survey reflects a
higher abstention rate among
Labour voters and is based on
an implied turnout of 76%.
The election turnout was
87.4%.
The results come in the
wake of a long hot summer for
the returning Labour admin-
istration, characterised by the
troubling Yorgen Fenech tri-
al and frustration over power
cuts.
Nonetheless, Abela enjoys
a nine-point trust lead over
Borg.
