€250,000 infrastructure project
inaugurated in Fontana
A nearly €250,000 beauti-
fication and infrastructure
project has been inaugurated
in an alley in Triq il-Għajn,
Fontana, with works includ-
ing an underground rainwa-
ter drainage system aimed at
reducing risks to residents.
The project was inaugurat-
ed by Gozo Minister Clint
Camilleri and Local Gov-
ernment and Public Works
Minister Alison Zerafa Civ-
elli.
Camilleri said the project,
which initially began as a
beautification initiative,
evolved into a wider infra-
structure intervention ad-
dressing rainwater manage-
ment and residents' safety.
The works included the
construction and extension
of rainwater drainage pipes,
the installation of railings,
the construction of steps and
additional stairways, as well
as the painting and cleaning
of walls.
Fontana Mayor Thomas
Mizzi said the investment
in underground drainage
would ensure that rainwa-
ter, which previously flowed
along the surface of the alley,
would now be channelled
underground, reducing po-
tential hazards for residents.
He said that the project was
designed to complement the
traditional characteristics
of the surrounding Maltese
houses while preserving the
alley's historic character.
Zerafa Civelli said the pro-
ject reflected the govern-
ment's commitment to im-
proving local infrastructure
and addressing the needs of
communities through col-
laboration with local coun-
cils.
