39 maltatoday, THIS WEEK SUNDAY, 27 OCTOBER 2013 Halloween on the silver screen: fancy dress and film discussion at Mdina Dungeons EURO Media Forum present two nights of film discussion at the Mdina Dungeons, with the Halloween-appropriate venue serving as a backdrop for a discussion of the classic films House of Wax (1958) and An American Werewolf in London (1981). During the event – taking place over October 30 and 31 – guests will be encouraged to dress up for the occasion, and the best-dressed horror costume will win prizes. Speaker Dr Krista Bonello Rutter Giappone, along with moderator David Pace, will be discussing the The House of Wax's place within the 'wax museum' and 'mad artist' subgenres of horror, and horror's long fascination with figures possessing an uncanny lifelikeness. Thursday is werewolves' film night, and so the speakers will delve into John Landis's 1981 cult classic An American Werewolf in London, discussing how the nocturnal monster's particular association with the 'autumn moon' makes it a natural Halloween film favourite.. The discussion will also focus on the significance of transformation and hybridity within horror, and will take into account other films within the werewolf 'canon'. The speakers promise an interesting debate and the audience is invited to participate and put forward to the panel their questions, curiosities and observations.
