The Vodafone Guardian app can be downloaded for free and is available for Android smartphones. "The application offers parents a greater degree of control than is available on smartphones today," said Georgiana Agius, Marketing Senior Executive at Vodafone Malta. "Through the Vodafone Guardian app, parents will be able to keep children safe while allowing them to benefit from the advantages of smartphones. The smartphone revolution is enormously positive for society and transforms the way millions of people communicate, share and learn. Children and young people have an intuitive understanding of the new world of smartphone communications and the mobile internet. However, parents who are concerned about the potential risks from cyberbullying and unsuitable content often lack the tools, support and skills to protect and support their children. The Vodafone Guardian app will empower parents and enhance their ability to share in their children's digital journey to adulthood." The Vodafone Guardian app is mainly designed to help customers block any unwanted communication to the phone of minor children and restrict access to the internet and other features on the Group of artists come together for Valletta Collective Exhibition device including the camera, WiFi, apps, and games. It also allows parents to decide who can call and text their child. Though the Vodafone Guardian is not proposed as a solution to anti-social activities such as harassment or bullying, it is definitely a step forward in ensuring that children are using their smartphone in a safer and more responsible manner. More information about the Vodafone Guardian app and how it can be downloaded is available on www.vodafone.com.mt How many times have you rushed through the main thoroughfares of Valletta, quickly dodging people and making your way through the crowd, without thinking of anything apart from getting your errands over and done with? After deciding that they had done it once too often, eleven local artists have joined their efforts and decided to play the part of tourists in their own country; they headed out to Valletta, seeking inspiration. The result? A Tale of a City – a collective exhibition by eleven local artists, with works that examine Valletta's true character and its influence on our identity as Maltese. Past and present come together in this feast of colour, which essentially is a celebration of what truly unites the Maltese people. The main drive leading towards the holding of this exhibition was not that of bringing to light the unknown aspects of Valletta, but rather the dusting and polishing of that which in the eyes of many has come to be seen as mundane, boring and which is generally taken for granted. The works being exhibited focus on the different aspects of Valletta, ranging from the vibrant Carnival and feasts to the sombre churches and monuments scattered around the city, from contemporary buildings to the historic bastions and the picturesque Grand Harbour, from the hustle and bustle of our city's commercial life to the peaceful gardens boasting unrivalled views. Despite the different themes and styles, however, all works come together in portraying the many simple things that are truly unique to Malta's capital city, depicting its many facets, at which we stare daily yet many times fail to take in and appreciate. Such an initiative could not have come at a better time, as preparations are under way to promote the city both locally and abroad, since it has been chosen as the European Capital City of Culture for the year 2018. Whilst some of these Maltese and Gozitan artists are new to the scene, others are already well established locally and have held several exhibitions, both solo as well as collective. Since all the artists have been exposed to various artistic influences and come from different professional backgrounds, A Tale of a City offers a diverse array of painting styles, showing each artist's distinctive techniques, the use and manipulation of different media, and also includes sculpture. The exhibition is being held at the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, in Republic Street, Valletta, between the 31st of October and the 21st of November 2013 and will open from Monday to Friday between 7am and 7pm. Entrance is free and artworks, as well as limited-edition professional prints, will be for sale. More information can be found on the website www.ataleofacity.com.
