21 Sport maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 22 JANUARY 2014 SPORTTODAY FOOTBALL Roma get revenge on Juventus in Coppa Italia Roma gained revenge for their recent crushing defeat at the hands of Juventus by knocking the Serie A leaders out of the Coppa Italia at the quarter-final stage. ROMA got their revenge for their recent crushing defeat at the hands of Juventus by knocking the Serie A leaders out of the Coppa Italia at the quarter-final stage. The Turin club were 3-0 winners when the two sides met in the league earlier this month, but Roma turned the tables on Tuesday night with a 1-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico. Juve thought they had taken the lead a minute after the restart through a Federico Peluso header but the effort was ruled out for offside. And the visitors were hit on the counter-attack 11 minutes from time, with substitute Miralem Pjanic racing the length of the field before laying the ball off to Kevin Strootman, who whipped in a cross for Gervinho to poke home the only goal from close range. Roma will now play the winners of next week's quarter-final tie between Napoli and Lazio. The other matches pit AC Milan against Udinese on Wednesday while Fiorentina take on Tuscan neighbours Siena on Thursday. AS Roma's Gervinho celebrates after scoring against Juventus Man City add more misery to West Ham CITY hammered West Ham 6-0 in the first leg of the semi-final two weeks ago and no mercy was spared again on Tuesday night at Upton Park. Not for the first time this season it was City's dynamic duo of Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo who did the damage in this 3-0 win. Negredo opened the scoring after two minutes with a close-range header and he rounded off the win in the second half after Aguero had made it 2-0. Negredo and Aguero have now scored an incredible 45 goals between them for City this term. They will now be hoping that Manchester United overturn their first-leg deficit against Sunderland to set up a mouthwatering derby final on March 2. West Ham, who were booed off the pitch, were always going to be up against it after the manner of their first-leg defeat, but the main thing that will worry manager Sam Allardyce was his team's lack of fight on what was a depressing night for Hammers fans inside a less than half-full Upton Park. Allardyce will also be concerned by the fact that Mohamed Diame and Joe Cole suffered injuries.
