41 maltatoday, Sunday, 2 march 2014 Events Nestlé Malta celebrated a produc- tive year during the annual end of the year reception held at the Grand Hotel Excelsior. "2013 was a year of accomplishments for Nestlé Malta," said Naum Janakiev, Country Man- ager Nestlé Malta when addressing the reception. "The highlight was definitely the visit to Malta by the Nestlé Executive Vice-President and Zone Director of Europe, Laurent Freixe accompanied by a top-level delegation from Nestlé which also included Corporate HR for Zone Europe, Alfredo Silva and Head of Operations for Zone Europe, Paul Kiortsis. The events surrounding this high-profile visit were a unique experience that made us proud." Mr Janakiev also spoke about Nestlè Malta's commitment to participate in the Nestlè European Youth Employment Initiative aimed at creating 20,000 positions for young people under the age of 30 across Europe over the next three years. Mr Janakiev also looked back at some of the other highlights and marketing campaigns that made this year, one of significant accom- plishments. He referred to the 'The Feel Good, Looks Good, Tastes Good' flashmob initiative by Nes- café Dolce Gusto in Valletta was seen by over 70,000 viewers in a matter of weeks. Mr Janakiev also spoke about how Nestlè Malta prides itself in being at the forefront of helping the local communties achieving their goals. In October, Nestlé collaborated with the Birgu local council to light up the fortified harbour town with thousands of candles during the an- nual candle-light festival by donat- ing empty Nescafé glass jars. In conclusion Mr Janakiev said that, "The Company has also asso- ciated itself with various sporting events such as the Fitness Inter- national Challenge Marathon and the Malta Golf Association shield. These events are always a great op- portunity to emphasise our com- mitment to promote healthy life- style initiatives taking place in the community where we operate." On a concluding note he thanked the management and staff for their commitment for making this year a memorable one. He said that with- out their continuous drive, the ob- jectives set for 2013 would not have been achieved. A modest donation was made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Malta by the Banif Bank Sports and Social Committee, as a gesture to acknowl- edge the sterling work that many dedicated volunteers are doing. The donation, collected through a fund- raising activity attended by Banif employees, will help the Society offer subsidised physiotherapy to their members suffering from mul- tiple sclerosis. The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Malta was set up in 1997. It aims to expand public awareness on the disease and offers individual and family services and rehabilitation in MS. Apart from subsidised physi- otherapy to members it also offers group psychotherapy for the whole family. It also seeks new knowledge, disseminates it and applies it for the benefit of persons with MS. "There are 300 persons in Malta known to have MS," said Chris Ciantar from the Banif Sports and Social Committee. "We hope our gesture will be emulated by others, so that together we can battle this rather invisible disease." Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system. The brain and spi- nal cord send messages to the rest of the body through electrical impuls- es. In persons with MS, these elec- trical impulses do not get through as they should due to damage to the message transmission system. It's called 'multiple' because more than one area of the brain and/or spinal cord is affected. The symptoms of the disease vary from problems with vision or sensation to mobility or coordination. In some cases MS can cause pain, speech disturbanc- es or emotional impairment. HSBC Malta's 'Malta Trade for Growth' initiative and the €50 mil- lion Trade Fund launched in De- cember will be one of the topics discussed during the first ever Busi- ness Roundtable with Government, organised by The Economist with support from HSBC Malta. The 'Invigorating Investment and Growth' conference will bring together many of the world's fore- most leaders to discuss prospects for the world economy and Malta's investment opportunities within the EU and the Mediterranean Re- gion. Speakers include President of the European Parliament Mar- tin Schulz, former Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti, former EU Commissioner Lord Peter Mandel- son and the Secretary General of the League of Arab States Nabil El Araby and Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat. HSBC Malta will have an extensive presence at the summit, including a stand that will provide insight into the bank's support for international trade and offer unique opportunities to network with distinguished sum- mit guests. HSBC guest speakers include: HS- BC Co-Head of Commercial Bank- ing Europe Tim Reid, who will be in Malta to discuss 'The Future of Eu- rope and the Mediterranean Region', HSBC Malta's CEO Mark Watkin- son, who will talk on 'Investing in Malta'; and HSBC Malta Head of Commercial Banking Michel Cor- dina who will participate in a panel on Maritime and Transport Oppor- tunities, Risks and Challenges for the next decade. "This first-class summit will ex- plore ways to invigorate investment and growth in Malta. As such, HSBC Malta's support fits perfectly in line with the bank's other initiatives to promote international trade and business growth, foremost of which is the Malta Trade for Growth initia- tive and the accompanying MTFG €50 million Fund, launched late last year," said Mark Watkinson, CEO of HSBC Bank Malta plc. "The €50 million fund helps Mal- tese businesses flourish by increas- ing international trade with growing and emerging markets and, equally importantly, encouraging interna- tional investment in Malta. Interna- tional trade is expected to bring the most significant growth to Maltese companies and the Malta Trade for Growth Fund is our platform to con- nect Maltese customers to global op- portunities, to help customers grow their business and, in turn, further the prosperity of Malta's economy," said Michel Cordina, Head of Com- mercial Banking HSBC Malta. "With Commercial Banking of- fices in 60 markets, and more than 7,000 relationship managers operat- ing worldwide, we are in a unique position to connect customers to new markets, provide local insight through people on the ground, and offer the financial support to help businesses expand globally," Mr Cordina added.
