THE 21-year-old from Madrid, who scored eight goals in 23 Primera Di- vision appearances for Champions League winners Real, has signed a five-year contract with the Serie A champions. A statement published on Juve's official website read: "Juventus Football Club can announce that Alvaro Morata has signed a five- year contract with the club after a fee of 20million euros, to be paid over three years, was agreed with Real Madrid. "The deal includes the option for Real Madrid to reacquire the play- er's registration rights at the end of the 2015-16 or 2016-17 campaigns, at predetermined values, up to a maximum of 30million euros. These values will be based on the number of matches played by Morata in the relevant season." Morata owns a Champions League winner's medal having played in Real's final victory over city rivals Atletico in May and he scored his first goal in the competition when closing out a 3-1 win against Schalke in the round of 16. With an impressive haul of 13 goals in 12 appearances for Spain's Under- 21 side, he had attracted the interest of Barclays Premier League club Ar- senal, who were reportedly close to signing the striker on loan in Janu- ary. Bundesliga side Wolfsburg were also believed to be interested. Morata was considered a part of Carlo Ancelotti's first-team plans at Real, but will hope to play more football in Turin. At Juventus, where Massimiliano Allegri this week replaced Antonio Conte as head coach, he will work alongside countryman Fernando Llorente and Argentinian Carlos Tevez in attack. The pair scored 35 Serie A goals between them in the 2013-14 sea- son as Juve achieved a record points haul of 102 on their way to claiming a third straight Scudetto. "Juve are one of the best clubs in the world, and the best in Italy," Morata said through Juventus' offi- cial Twitter account. "I am keen to contribute to the pursuit of further success. "I've spoken to Allegri and I have a strong desire to get to work. "I've wanted to play for Juve for a long time and the club have always shown a strong interest in me. "I feel ready. I know it will be hard, but I'm ready to tackle Serie A head on." 47 maltatoday, SUNDAY, 20 JULY 2014 SPORTTODAY Juventus have signed highly-rated Spanish striker Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid for €20million Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti has car stolen at gunpoint Chelsea won't sign anyone else confirms Mourinho Inter legend and new vice-president Javier Zanetti was reportedly carjacked in Argentina at gunpoint on Friday INTER legend and new vice-presi- dent Javier Zanetti was reportedly carjacked in Argentina at gunpoint last night. The 40-year-old, who retired from playing this summer to join the club staff, was on vacation in the Banfield area. Diario Popular claims Zanetti was driving with his father in a 4x4 when they were accosted by men who pointed a gun to his head and threatended to kill him. Made to leave the vehicle, Zan- etti and his father were unhurt, but it's reported the carjackers were tracked down and arrested soon after. A similar incident happened two years ago but with his wife Paula in small town south of Buenos Aires. Zanetti's wife was pregnant at that time and she was with two friends. Again the robbers stole their car and thankfully injured nobody. Javier Zanetti Alvaro Morata FOOTBALL Juventus complete signing of Real Madrid striker Morata CHELSEA'S purchase of Bra- zilian defender Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid on Friday was the English Premier League club's final act of the transfer window, manager Jose Mour- inho said. The Blues, who finished third last season, have spent around £80 million in the close season on Luis, striker Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Hajduk Split midfielder Mario Pasalic. "We finished the market to- day," Mourinho told BT Sport. "The transfer market closes 31 August and we close on July 19. "My club did a fantastic job, not just because of what we bought, but because we did it in almost record time. "The club did fantastic, we knew the targets, we knew the players and the club attacked them and their clubs at a very early stage." Chelsea had also been linked with a move for Real Madrid 's German World Cup-winning midfielder Sami Khedira but Mourinho said he was pleased with the squad he had at his disposal. "We got exactly what we need and what we want. The squad is one which I like very much and I look forward to starting the season," the former Real boss said. The purchase of former Ar- senal captain Fabregas was a particular coup but Mourinho said the Spaniard took little convincing and had not been considering a return to the Gunners. "I spoke with him for 20 min- utes. I think he really wanted to come to us," the 51-year-old said. "Arsenal had an option where they could interfere, but I think he was not open to that. He was very much in our direction, so it was an easy job for me."
