Dashing off on a romantic weekend, where such pleasures can be in- expensive whilst still be- ing indulgent, is the right escape Dinner at Tosca Restau- rant, is all on offering at the Solana Hotel and Spa makes for the perfect end to such an escape. A familiar welcome is always an opportunity to relax the guests. Staff greets guests whilst the Chef works away in his open show kitchen. The trend of open kitchens is a sign to customers that restaurateurs have nothing to hide, especially at Tosca Restaurant, where genuine products such as fresh pasta and fish together with the homemade desserts are fully displayed. Tosca Restaurant is a casual, ener- getic, everyday restaurant, offering exceptional food at a great value. The fusion of conviviality shared between the chefs, the waiting staff and the diners is a consistent feature. An unforgettable dining experience may start with a selection of "anti- pasto italiano" – an ar- ray of sliced Parma ham, Bresaola and rolled pan- cetta, mint marinated artichokes, black olives and rosemary foccacia, drizzled with olive oil presented in charming white porcelain. The baked Silver Bream, neatly cleaned next to the guests' table, is served with lemon and parsley to bring out the flavour of freshness. The generous rib-eye steak, expertly served rare to medium, was topped with melted mozzarella di bufala and basil leaves. A tip for the dessert selection is to ask for the headwaiter the special- ity of the day. The ricotta cheesecake blended with vanilla and mascarpone cheese is an authentic delicacy, pref- erably accompanied over an espresso and an amaretto. The thoughtful seasonal menu fea- tures antipasti, soups, fresh pasta, artisan pizzas, grilled filet of beef, fresh seafood just to name a few. Al- ternatively the specialities of the day, which can be customised to guests' requests, vary from an average of €8.00 for a starter with an extra €3.50 if ordered as a main course; and a grilled rib-eye for €22.00 or a chicken breast for €17.00. The wine list is im- pressive and one wonders where they keep it all. The smooth flow of service; the interaction with the staff; the cosy atmosphere of a small restaurant and last but not least the piped music in the background without the distrac- tion of television sets, are all comple- mentary blessings for a dinner worth talking about.
