22 maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 29 OCTOBER 2014 MOTORSPORTS FORMULA 1 BOXING Sport Autocross and Motocross ASMK Races next Sunday ON Sunday 2 November 2014 'As- socjazzjoni Sport u Karozzi' will be organizing other Motorsport activi- ties at its Ta' Qali Sports Complex. These races are part of the ASMK Pasta POIATTI National Champi- onships 2014/15. The Autocross will be holding the second race of the Championship and will be driving in the normal clockwise direction. During this program a new Class for Standard Autocross cars will be launched mainly with new drivers on new formula cars. These are a stepping stone into the more com- petitive Autocross Modified Auto- cross Class. Sunday's program will also in- clude the first race of the Motocross Championship. The day's Program begins at 10: 00am when Mass is said during one event in November of each year and spectators are in- vited to attend. The races start at 11.00am. During this week the Association regained the services of a Techni- cal expert in building Motocross tracks. Mr. Angelo Cinquemani who re-built the Motocross track last January of this year is in Malta to do maintenance work on the Motocross track again. He also is to see the needs of the newer and experienced Motocross riders. His work proved fruitful mainly among the ASMK Motocross competitors who are competing in the FMI Re- gional MX Championship in Sic- ily. The Maltese riders are winning high places in the FMI competitions following practice sessions on our tracks in Malta following the modi- fications made by Cinquemani. All this is made possible by the support from Kunsill Malti ghall Isport, the Maltese Olympic Committee, Philip Agius & Sons and Carmel Vella & Sons. These newer track modifica- tions attract the present riders as well as future ones who are expect- ed to begin this sport and compete abroad in different classes. Meanwhile before starting the activity on Sunday 2nd November, ASMK will be organizing prayers and Holy Mass on site at the Ta Qali race tracks. This event has now en- tered the sporting calendar of As- sociation when once a year in the month of November, Holy Mass is said by all present for all deceased ex-members especially for former Executive Committee member and ex-Autocross competitor Gian Pa- tist Azzopardi who passed away in a traffic accident at Mtarfa earlier last week. On the day ASMK will also mark this day as a day of mourning when all flags will fly at half-mast at the race circuits. ASMK sends con- dolences to Azzopardi family. The Association also announced two more important dates. The 2nd Enduro Race in the National Cham- pionship will be held on Sunday 9 November 2014. This second Endu- ro meeting will be held at ASMK Ta' Qali sport complex. This event will be ideal for beginners and novices in the sport and also for the experts in Enduro racing. The 2nd Moto Trials event will be held on the 23rd November 2014 for both Class A and Class B riders. This non-speed event on power- ful special light motorcycles will also be held at the tal-Ballut Quar- ry in Naxxar. The event starts at 9.30am and welcomes non-ASMK members too. More details can be found in the Official website www.asmk.org.mt Marussia placed into administration South African female boxer dies after two weeks in coma THE Marussia Formula 1 team has been officially ruled out of this week- end's United States Grand Prix after its trading company, Manor Grand Prix Racing Limited, was placed into administration. Specialist restructuring and re- covery firm FRP Advisory LLP was appointed to administrate the com- pany on Monday and, due to a lack of finances, has chosen to skip the Austin round. "Whilst the team has made signifi- cant progress during its relatively short period of operation, the high- light of which included securing two Constructors' Championship points in the current F1 season, the position remains that operating a F1 team requires significant ongoing investment," said Joint Administra- tor Geoff Rowley. "With the existing shareholder unable to provide the required level of funding, the senior management team has worked tirelessly to bring new investment to the team to se- cure its long term future, but regret- tably has been unable to do so within the time available. "Therefore, they have been left with no alternative but to place the company into administration." FRP added that Marussia will con- tinue to operate as it assesses the longer term options for the compa- ny, which has not made any redun- dancies and is up to date with staff payments. "Following Austin, there are two further rounds of the 2014 champi- onship remaining, in São Paulo and Abu Dhabi, and the team's partici- pation in those races will depend on the outcome of the administration process and any related negotiations with interested parties in what is a very limited window of opportuni- ty," the statement continued. "No redundancies have been made following the company's entering in- to administration and all staff have been paid in full to the end of Octo- ber. The ongoing staff position will however be dependent on whether the company can secure new invest- ment in the limited time available. "We remain highly focused on en- gaging with interested parties." With Caterham also entering ad- ministration last week, the field is set to consist of just 18 cars in Aus- tin. This would mark the smallest grid since the 2005 Monaco Grand Prix, when BAR was banned for a rule breach. LIGHT middleweight Phindile Mwelase, 31, fell into a coma on October 10 after a fight against Liz Butler, who defeated her by a knockout. She died on Saturday at a Pretoria hospital. South Africa President Jacob Zuma expressed his "heartfelt con- dolences on the untimely death" of Mwelase. His office said in a statement on Tuesday. "She joined a sport that is predominantly male, and was prov- ing that women can also succeed in boxing. "Her untimely passing has robbed us of a role model." In a statement on their website Boxing South Africa added: "Box- ing SA not only grieves at the pass- ing of a wonderful and tremendous individual but also for the loss her family suffers. Our hearts and prayers go out to them at this dif- ficult time." Mwelase is the third athlete to die in sports-mad South Africa in less than a week. National soccer goal- keeper and captain Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead by intruders at his girlfriend's home on Sunday night. Former world 800 metre cham- pion Mbulaeni Mulaudzi was killed in a car crash on Friday. Doctor Solly Skosana, trainer Stanley Ndlovu and a paramedic attend to stricken boxer Phindile Mwelase.
