The Malta event will be held on Thursday 5 February 2015 at the Hotel Phoenicia, Floriana, starting quite early in the morning at 07:00. Conducted by Malta BNI National Director, David Bullock, the event will be attracting all business profession- als, tradespeople, entrepreneurs, stu- dents, government and local councils representatives. "Our business is to help your busi- ness do more business," explained Bullock. "Participants learn how they can generate more business through BNI's dynamic structure called the business referral system." As the largest business networking organization in the world, BNI offers its members the opportunity to share ideas, contacts and, most importantly, business referrals. BNI groups, of which there are six in Malta – Valletta, Attard, Qormi, St. Julian's, and now two in Sliema - com- prise members who build long term relationships and are sincerely com- mitted to helping one another find more business through networking and word of mouth referrals. Relationship networking is not only a great way to get business, it's an even better way to do business. I urge Maltese people to utilize International Networking Week to focus on doing something to improve their own networking efforts because there really is no better time than now to start strengthening your business relationships." AN object represents cultural her- itage if there is public interest in keeping it for any of the artistic, scientific, technical, historic, indus- trial and urban design reasons. If one of these criteria is met, the ob- ject represents cultural heritage and is worthy of protection. All these criteria are uniquely embodied in the Farsons Brewery architecture and they will be further developed through a masterplan, which in- cludes the transformation of the iconic old Brewhouse and former Packaging Halls into the Farsons Business Park. A full house of 120 at the first public lecture on Industrial Her- itage. Organised by Farsons and The Farsons Foundation in con- junction with Heritage Malta, the participants were welcomed by Farsons Director Michael Farru- gia. An introductory overview by heritage specialist Dr Kristen Lip- pincott identified the themes of brewing in the Old Farsons Brew- ery; the company's past, present and future, the Farsons commu- nity and the Farsons brand within the context of Malta's industrial heritage. An attentive audience heard the argument by award-winning architect Professor Ian Ritchie, whose architectural firm devel- oped the initial proposed master- plan. He maintained that protect- ing iconic industrial heritage, such as Farsons Brewhouse, is akin to holding on to a story from bygone era – except once preserved, the stories can be narrated time and again. "To discover old spaces and to reinvest energy into them and give them a new life, in effect a renais- sance, should be as thrilling as creating a new building," said Pro- fessor Ian Ritchie, whose practice has received more than 60 nation- al and international awards. "It is not the aesthetic beauty or the age of a more or less old building that matters. The only criterion is the public interest in the object." The public lecture on 'Archi- tecture and Farsons' Industrial Heritage' was the first of a series of lectures focusing on specific themes of industrial heritage. The second lecture entitled 'Industrial Advancement and Defence Strat- egies' by Matthew Balzan will be held on Wednesday 28 January at the Inquisitor's Palace in Birgu at 6.30 p.m. The lectures are part of a broader initiative by Farsons and The Farsons Foundation, in close collaboration with Heritage Malta and the University of Malta, to create further awareness about Malta and Farsons' industrial her- itage. A publication of researched contributions shedding light on Malta's industrial past was jointly released last year by The Farsons Foundation and the University of Malta. Attendance to the lectures is strictly on confirmation via jo- sette.ellul@gov.mt or by phone on 21663731 by not later than Mon- day 26 January 2015. Early confir- mation is recommended in view of limited seating.
