maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 25 FEBRUARY 2015 17 Events ALIVE2015 - Cycling Challenge for Cancer goes for the gold ribbon FOLLOWING the success of the previous two cycling chal- lenges which altogether raised over €135,000 for breast cancer research at the University of Malta, ALIVE Charity Foundation will be taking up the task of raising funds for the gold ribbon, which is the official ribbon of children with cancer. "This year, following various talks with the Research Trust (RIDT) of the University of Malta and the Fac- ulty of Medicine and Surgery at the University, an urgent need was felt to start conducting research in two oth- er common cancers found in Malta, especially in children - leukaemia and brain tumour. ALIVE2015, in collaboration with Puttinu Cares, will be raising funds for the gold rib- bon," said Nicky Camilleri, Chairper- son ALIVE Charity Foundation. Held at Mater Dei Hospital, the press conference was attended by the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, the Parliamentary Secretary for research, innovation, youth and sport Chris Agius and the Shadow Minister for the family and the rights of children, the elderly and persons with a disability Robert Cutajar, as well as the Pro-Rector for Research and Innovation Profes- sor Richard Muscat, Senior Lecturer within the Department of Anatomy Dr Pierre Schembri Wismayer, and Consultant Paediatric Oncologist and President of Puttinu Cares Chil- dren's Cancer Support Group Dr Vic- tor Calvagna. "The most common cancers in children are acute leukaemias and lymphomas, brain tumours, the various sarcomas, and the embryo- nal tumours particular to children," said Dr Victor Calvagna. "Cancer in Malta affects around 10 children un- der the age of 14 years every year. A third of these suffer from leukaemia and another third will have a brain tumour. Therefore it is the duty of Puttinu Cares to support initiatives that support research in the treat- ment of these conditions and it is the aim of ALIVE2015 to collect funds for this cause. The ALIVE 2015 - Cycling Chal- lenge for Cancer will be held from the 9 to 18 July 2015 – in seven days - across seven countries. Forty-five (45) cyclists are training and pre- paring for a physically and mentally tough ride. T he group will cycle approximately 150 km every day from the Alps to Sutton in the UK. The route will see the cyclists starting from Liech- tenstein, crossing the Alps and Swit- zerland and heading into Germany. After crossing the Black Forest and the Alsace region of France as well as the Vosges Mountains, they will head into Luxembourg and cycle to Bel- gium. Crossing the English Channel to Dover, the cyclists will then finish the challenge at the Puttinu Cares Residence in Sutton. To date 41 of the 45 places available have been filled and fund-raising ac- tivities are already being organised. The raised funds will go towards scientific research in childrem's cancer at the University of Malta. Dr Pierre Schembri Wismayer will be conducting the research together with a team of researchers in collabo- ration with Mater Dei Hospital. FIAT Professional launches the Nuovo Doblò Cargo EARLIER this month, Fiat Profes- sional presented the Nuovo Doblò Cargo, the fourth generation of the Fiat Professional model, which is now more functional and driving more performance and value. These were in fact the main guide- lines that allowed Fiat Professional to design a vehicle at the top of its class in terms of performance, functional characteristics, load capacity, produc- tivity, fuel economy and low running costs. Fresh from its world début at the 2014 Hanover Motor Show, the Nuovo Doblò Cargo is now available to the wider public with a completely up- dated interior and exterior design re- flecting classic car-like specifications. To get an idea, take a look at the ul- tra-modern distinctive front end, the bigger front grille and the many new components (bumpers, bonnet, head- lights and tail-light clusters). "For Fiat Professional, taking care of customers also means designing and building the right vehicles to meet their professional ambitions. This segment is a very dynamic one and Fiat Professional's success is based on its ability to be responsive to these constantly changing needs," explains Francesca Mamo from UCIM Co Ltd, official representatives of Fiat Profes- sional in Malta. "In Malta, the Fiat Professional brand enjoys a very strong presence due to its versatility and adaptability to various sizes of business operations. "The smaller models are ideal for those companies who are looking for a vehicle or even a fleet of vehicles that translate to high efficiencies in fuel and running costs. The larger models are also very popular thanks to their sturdy and versatile nature, bringing more value to a business' investment," added Francesca Mamo. A number of interesting and very practical enhancements have been carried out on the new model namely a comprehensive update also for the passenger compartment, with new dashboard, fabrics, steering wheel, instrument panel graphics and door panels. Likewise, the functionality-driven configuration is visible in a series of specific ergonomic solutions, from the multifunction front bench seat for driver and two passengers, the quieter interior, the new infotainment and navigation sytems and the gateway device. Also, as in the previous gen- eration the Nuovo Doblò Cargo's load capacity and volume are both at the top of the category. The new Nuovo Doblò Cargo's per- formance has also been enhanced with improved torque response during city driving (up to 40%) and with the inclu- sion of the Bi-link independent rear suspension (exclusive contents for the segment) to ensure the best handling and driving comfort in its class. The range also extends to include the new "EcoJet" version - equipped with the 90 hp Multijet II 1.3 or 105 hp Multijet II 1.6 - which combines reduced running costs and low fuel consumption (improvement of up to 15%). AUDIT, tax and advisory firm RSM Malta has reported a successful par- ticipation at ICE Totally Gaming 2015 - the largest global convention for online and land based gaming operators. This year's event was held at ExCel London between the 2nd and 4th February 2015 and the attendance broke the 25,000 mark for the first time in the exhibition's history. Within the gaming industry, the ICE event is considered as the not- to-be-missed annual appointment for the most successful, the largest and the best gaming operators, serv- ice providers and jurisdictions from around the globe. Tax advisors from RSM Malta were present on the Firm's stand at ICE to provide information and technical assistance in respect of the recent changes in VAT legislation that came into force at the beginning of the year. As an EU member state, Malta follows the new European VAT legislation whereby VAT is now charged at the VAT rate applicable in the customer's country of residence. This has significantly impacted re- mote gaming companies. This information was particularly useful for gaming operators who have already domiciled their opera- tions in Malta. Led by partner Vladimiro Co- modini, RSM Malta met a number of gaming operators who intend to relocate their business to Malta and others who are already in Malta and have plans to grow further. "RSM Malta is facing 2015 with confidence and our firm is follow- ing up all the meetings held during ICE 2015, which will lead to further growth in this area" said Vladimiro Comodini, one of the firm's Busi- ness and Advisory Services Partners who also leads the in-house team that is dedicated to providing ad- visory services to remote gaming companies. RSM Malta is one of the main service providers in Malta for gam- ing operators. The firm is equipped with in-house resources to offer a one-stop-shop service for all the licensing, regulatory, compliance, fiscal, back office and audit services that a gaming operator may require. RSM Malta is active in offering tax and VAT planning and advice, com- pany incorporation, business and IT advisory as well as accounting, audit and payroll services to a wide range of clients operating in various indus- tries. The firm employs around 70 employees in different areas of spe- cialisation, ranging from a variety of backgrounds including Tax, VAT, IT, legal, accountancy and audit. RSM Malta is a certified Equal Op- portunity Employer by the National Commission for the Promotion of Equality (NCPE). YOUR FIRST CLICK OF THE DAY www.maltatoday.com.mt
