Events 30,000 people visit il-Fiera l-Kbira in four days OVER 30,000 people visited the Fiera l-Kbira, being held at MonteKristo Estate in its first four days. The second edition of the fair, which was officially inaugurated by the President last Thursday at 7pm, brings together over 230 exhibitors all offering various special offers reserved for Fiera l-Kbira. This success is also owed to a new traffic management system being implemented on site. Fol- lowing feedback gathered last year, the Fiera l-Kbira management team has engaged the services of a traffic consultant who, togeth- er with the Police and Wardens drastically reduced waiting time to access the fair parking areas. The general public can also reach MonteKristo Estate by using a free bus service leaving practically all localities at 5pm. Those travelling from Gozo are also given complimentary access to Fiera l-Kbira on presentation of the ferry ticket. In the meantime, various win- ners have been announced. Eight lucky Fiera l-Kbira visitors will be enjoying a free Air Malta flight, taxes included, to a top European destination thanks to Britannia Tours, who are given away two free flights a day. The fair ticket also allows visi- tors to participate in a lottery with a Citroen C4 Cactus as a prize thanks to an exclusive agreement between Fiera l-Kbira and Michael Attard Ltd. The multi-award win- ning car can be viewed on the Fiera l-Kbira grounds. Fiera l-Kbira opens at 6pm every day till Sunday 19 July. Express Trailers has in fact of- fered to transport the partici- pants' equipment from Malta to Lichtenstein, the start of the challenge. The 1,000km cycling challenge is seeing the par- ticipating cyclists pass through seven countries in seven days namely Lichtenstein, Germa- ny, Denmark, Belgium, France and the UK. They are cycling 8 hours a day in an attempt to cover a daily distance of about 160km. The challenge is being or- ganised in collaboration with Puttinu Cares in aid of the Uni- versity's Research Trust (RIDT). The money will support a PhD student who is currently re- searching the effects of treat- ment based on previous research on brain tumours and neurob- lastoma, a tummy cancer found in children. This treatment aims at removing cancer cells whilst minimising many of the side ef- fects of chemotherapy. Franco Azzopardi, Chairman and CEO of Express Group met the participants at Express Trailers' premises where they convened to load all their bicy- cles and equipment inside an Express Trailers container. "The altruistic hallmark of Ex- press Trailers is supporting the vulnerable road user. We admit that we are a nuisance on the roads, lest necessary to do our job of transporting food, phar- ma and cargo. The Alive Chal- lenge initiative fits into our pro- gramme seamlessly, especially also because it too is demon- strates solidarity and altruism," said Franco Azzopardi. "We are proud to be in a posi- tion to support such a great ini- tiative by a group of people who want to help a worthy cause. Our network of operations across mainland Europe made it possible for us to offer our lo- gistical support and helping the 47 cyclists participating in this year's edition of the ALIVE2015 Cycling Challenge for Cancer get all their cycling gear safely and in time to Lichtenstein," added Franco Azzopardi. "As a company whose com- mitment is to deliver any size of load safely and securely, we also augur all the participants a safe experience on Europe's roads and we look forward to welcom- ing them back in Malta," added Azzopardi. Electrofix Energy open new €1.5 million premises in Qormi THE generation of clean energy is currently topmost on our island's environmental agenda. As we con- tinue to reduce our reliance on tra- ditional and expensive fossil fuels, newer energy forms are becoming an important consideration for business and homeowners alike. Facilitating that, local company Electrofix is dedicated to bringing the latest clean energy technology to the market. The company, which opened in 2000, has grown to become a leader in this sector. It has developed from a one-man-band operating from a garage in Tarxien, to this brand new, 1,600sqm premises in a key lo- cation in Qormi, where it employs 51 highly trained personnel. All of this is a huge achievement for the dedicated team running this or- ganisation. "We are so proud of how far Elec- trofix has come in 15 years," says director Debbie Schembri. "Taking over this building and transform- ing it into a centre for clean energy in Malta has long been our dream, and we are thrilled to have made it a reality. This has been a major in- vestment but we believe it will be worth it." Electrofix specialises in alterna- tive energy products, industrial mechanical and electrical installa- tions, service station development, and locally-produced domestic and commercial water treatment equip- ment. Among its extensive recent port- folio of projects, the company's Clean Energy Department was re- cently entrusted with the comple- tion of both the first- and second- largest solar photovoltaic (PV) farms in Malta, for Medserv and Attard Brothers respectively. Mean- while, its Fuel Division provided the equipment for the Fuel Service Sta- tion for the Armed Forces of Malta's Maritime Squad in Haywarf.
