22 maltatoday, Wednesday, 17 February 2016 Sport motorsports PHOTOGRAPHY BY Mario Micallef Toro Rosso to run late-2015 Ferrari engine Toro rosso team boss Franz Tost has confirmed that the outfit will use Ferrari's end-of-2015 specifica- tion power unit for the upcoming Formula 1 campaign, as the two parties reunite. Toro rosso, previously supplied by Ferrari from 2007-2013, switched to renault for the start of the latest turbocharged V6 era, but the French firm has struggled for reliability and performance. After lengthy delays, Toro rosso finally returned to Ferrari power for 2016, albeit with a year-old specifi- cation, confirming that a deal had been reached at the beginning of December. Tost has now made clear that Toro rosso will be powered by Fer- rari's latest 2015-spec unit when the squad debuts its new STr11 at the opening Barcelona pre-season test on Monday. "I am convinced we will get a very good engine from Ferrari because we like to work together with Fer- rari, we had our biggest success with Ferrari," Tost is quoted as saying by Autosport. "This engine, which is the model from the end of last year, is for us a big step forward, and I'm optimis- tic. "Everything is a little more compli- cated, but only for the reason of the very short timeframe, and therefore the engineers from both sides had to work very hard to get everything into the car. "From year to year it gets more complicated and sophisticated, but that's how Formula 1 is." Tost added that, given the delays, Toro rosso will run a blue livery at the February 22-25 test, before pre- senting its 2016 colours on February 29, the day before the second gath- ering begins. "We are so late with everything, and we want to make a proper paint job, therefore we will present the car on [February] 29 in Barcelona," Tost added, when asked about the livery. "The only reason why we present the car later is because we are very tight with everything, to get it ready. "Because of the late decision with our running for this season, every- thing got a little bit late, but our peo- ple have done a fantastic job, the car is nearly ready, and we are absolutely on schedule. "Therefore I am not worried for the first test in Barcelona." AsmK Enduro - scicluna wins over Gauci by 3 seconds on Sunday 14 February 2016, As- socjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karo- zzi (ASMK) organised the fourth event of the ASMK Pasta PoI- ATTI 2015/2016 Enduro national Championship with the support of Dunlop Tyres - Malta. The activ- ity was organized in a rock Cut- ting Quarry in Fawwara thanks to Barbro Schembri and Polidano Group who allowed the use of the quarry for this race. The organising committee managed to construct a three kil- ometres long track which offered various track surface conditions and challenges for new comers to this sport and also for those who usually take part in the ASMK Enduro Championship. Although it was Valentines Day, 18 competi- tors registered for this event which was divided into two classes. A look at the day's race in the pole position race for Class A we saw Gary Debono and Andre Sci- cluna both on a KTM motorcycles dominating this Pole Position. Along the Pole Position Gauci suffered a problem with his front wheel but nonethe- less he still managed to make the best time over the Pole. Gauci was followed by Scicluna and Sammut respectively. In the first Heat of the day we recorded that Gauci continued to improve his time over that of Sammut and Scicluna who did their best to de- fend their positions. During this Heat Wayne Zahra entered the scene on a KTM motorcycle who also improved his times dramati- cally. Zahra finished this Heat to follow Scicluna. During the Second Heat there was tension among many riders though every- thing was still undecided in this class between Gauci and Scicluna, but Scicluna improved his time so well that he ended up winning the class with his best time of 6 min- utes 12.15 seconds followed by championship leader Gauci with his best time of 6 minutes 15.13 seconds.
