maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 27 JULY 2016 17 Events Emirates to deploy flagship A380 on Johannesburg route EMIR ATES has announced that it will be upgrading one of its four daily f lights between Dubai and Johannesburg to an Airbus A380-800 from 1st Feb- ruary, 2017. Emirates currently uses Boe- ing 777 aircraft for each of the four daily f lights between the two cities, making it the busi- est route in the airline's African network, with over three mil- lion passengers carried in the last five years. Once launched, Johannesburg will join more than 40 destinations in Emir- ates' extensive global network that is served by its f lagship A380 aircraft. The A380 will offer a total of 516 seats in a three class cabin configuration, with 14 private suites in First Class, 76 mini pods with lie-f lat seats in Busi- ness Class and 426 spacious seats in Economy Class. It will be deployed on the first f light of the day, EK761, and will de- part Dubai at 04.40 and arrive in Johannesburg at 10.55. The return f light, EK762, will de- part Johannesburg at 13.25 and arrive in Dubai at 23.45. The Emirates A380 is re- nowned for its on-board lounge on the upper deck for First Class and Business Class cus- tomers where they can social- ise or relax, while those in First Class enjoy the added benefit of exclusive use of the on-board shower spas to freshen up dur- ing f lights. Emirates will be the only airline in the market offer- ing premium customers these products on an A380. The air- line's premium customers also enjoy complimentary chauffeur drive, lounge access and prior- ity check-in for all its f lights at Johannesburg's Oliver Tambo International Airport. Named the world's best airline 2016 and the airline with the world's best inf light entertain- ment at the prestigious Skytrax World Airline Awards recently, all Emirates customers travel- ling on the A380 can access more than 2,500 channels of on demand audio and visual enter- tainment on its ice system, fea- turing the latest movies, music, TV programmes, podcasts and games, as well as free Wi-Fi to stay in touch with family and friends during f lights. As with all Emirates' f lights, custom- ers also enjoy regionally and internationally inspired cuisine as well as the famed hospitality of the airline's multi-national cabin crew, including South Af- rican nationals. Emirates first started services to South Africa 21 years ago and in addition to the four daily f lights between Dubai and Jo- hannesburg, it also offers three daily f lights between Dubai and Cape Town, and a daily f light between Dubai and Dur- ban, enabling global connectiv- ity for South African travellers through its worldwide network of more than 150 destinations. The A380 service will be operated as codeshare with South African Airways as with all other Emirates' services to South Africa. Emirates operates daily sched- uled f lights between Malta and Dubai on Boeing 777-300 aircraft. Emirates f lies twice weekly to Malta, on Mondays and Wednesdays, via Larnaca in Cyprus, and on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays the airline oper- ates the Dubai-Malta route on a circular routing via Tunis in Tunisia. The return f light f lies direct from Malta to Dubai. An Emirates A380 Brown's launches community oriented Health & Beauty extension HAVING garnered repeated success over the past couple of years, Brown's pharmacy is once again positioning itself as an in- dustry leader, this time in the realm of Health and Beauty. Enjoying a presence through- out Malta's busiest cities, Brown's set out to be a lead- ing pharmacy business with a strong sense of responsibility towards its community. As a result, Brown's has re- cently launched its Health & Beauty extension that will focus on educating the public with re- gard to general wellbeing. "We believe that we can bring change by educating the public through various activations and awareness campaigns on health related issues, such as skin cancer, obesity, STDs, health and wellbeing among others," Brown's retail director Alexan- der Fenech said. "In addition, the company shall also be diversif ying and developing its beauty treatment offerings by including laser hair removal and teeth whitening to its existing services." Health & Beauty by Brown's will aim to create public health campaigns, to raise public awareness and understanding on health issues and to mobilise support for action from the local community. "Whether it is promoting children vaccination, smoking cessation, or creating sun pro- tection awareness in our com- munity, we aim to contribute through engagement on social media, as well as by raising or donating funds towards the dif- ferent causes," he added. The aim behind this initiative, is to involve the community as much as possible through a se- ries of public activations and campaigns. To this end, Health & Beauty by Brown's representa- tives will be present in various locations during the summer distributing sunblock in order to raise awareness about the im- portance of protecting oneself from the sun's rays whilst enjoy- ing outdoor activities. The first activation took place in Qormi on Sunday, 17th July during the feast procession. A meal fit for kingsā€¦ Renowned Slovenian chef visits The Palace in Sliema INTERNATIONALLY re- nowned, award-winning mentor and president of Slovenian Culi- nary Academy, Chef Jozef Oseli recently visited Malta as a guest of The Palace, Sliema. During his stay he created a memorable buffet dinner together with The Palace's executive chef, Joseph Xuereb, blending Slovenian and Maltese elements to produce a unique gastronomical experi- ence. Chef Jozef Oseli continues to enjoy an illustrious career today. He started as a waiter in the Par- liament of the Republic of Slove- nia where he developed a passion for food. He has cooked for numerous world leaders, presidents, kings and emperors at the Slovenian Presidential Residence in the Brdo Castle in Kranj from 1972 to 1989. Among his many awards he has won medals from the GTZ Slove- nian Competition and Yugoslav State Orders. He is currently also a member of several associations and organisations such as Slove- nian Chef Assosiation, Acade- mie Coulinaire de France, Emir- ates Coulinary Guild, Slovenien Sommelier and World Associa- tion of Chefs Societies.
