maltatoday, SUNDAY, 19 MARCH 2017 Events 45 @ maltatoday We are on Instagram HSBC UKCC renews the vistas of Pembroke European Day of Early Music, 21 March Swapping their headsets and keyboards for gloves, more than a dozen team members from the HSBC UK Contact Centre (UKCC) Malta descended on Pembroke to help the picturesque locality bag its street litter in the first of a number of charitable ac- tivities planned for 2017. The group of volunteers picked up domestic and even industrial waste from the surroundings of the iconic Australia Hall, making the area safe for residents and visi- tors alike, but also, importantly, for the hundreds of students of nearby schools. The cleanup was organised together with the Pem- broke Local Council. Volunteer work is part of the HSBC culture and the company has in place a Voluntary Leave Day programme, which enables employees to take a paid day off of work and effect positive change in the community. In 2016, volunteers from the HSBC UKCC helped in a number of community-inspired activities, including at the Kids In Devel- opment service of the Richmond Foundation, Dar tal-Providenza, Dar Sagra Familja, Europa Donna to name a few. Pembroke Mayor Dean Hili, who was present with the HSBC UKCC volunteers during the cleanup, said: "As the number of visitors to our beautiful island continues to increase, the importance of work- ing together to keep it clean and inviting only grows. HSBC has demonstrated its commitment to this over and over again, as we have previously worked with HS- BC Malta branches in the north and now with the staff of the HS- BC UKCC." On 21 March, we celebrate the first day of spring, the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach and the European Day of Early Music. 2017, will see this Anniversary be- ing celebrated for the fifth time! Early Music spans more than a millennium of music from the Middle Ages to the end of the 18th century. Through concerts, events and happenings taking place si- multaneously across Europe, The European Day of Early Music is an important tribute to this histori- cal musical heritage. The European Day of Early Mu- sic is a project piloted by REMA (Réseau Européen de Musique Ancienne / European Early Music Network) which is the only Rep- resentative for Early Music in Eu- rope. It was created in Ambronay, France, in 2000. The network now boasts a membership of around 75 Early Music organizations from 21 countries. The network's strength comes from the number, diversity and quality of its member organiza- tions. REMA organizes regular conferences, runs a web-based radio station, www.remaradio. eu, dedicated to early music in general, and more specifically to its member organizations and to young ensembles. REMA's aim is to facilitate a col- laborative network for its mem- bers and to encourage the sharing of information, knowledge and co-operation among its members.
