2 CONTINUES FROM PAGE 1 Bonel- lo insisted that if he came to accept Muscat's invitation to address the mass meeting, all of Malta can come to accept Muscat. Bonello was also one of the lawyers representing the PN who, after the 2013 general election, petitioned the re- counts on the eighth and 13th districts. In his opening re- marks, Bonello explained how he had voted for the PN in 2013, and soon after the result, he immediately started work- ing to help transform the PN into an electable party once again. "I disagreed with the party's position on divorce but I still continued militating within the party. I didn't believe that Joseph Muscat would truly work with people who politi- cally disagreed with him. "Instead, I continued believ- ing in the PN and that we would finally eradicate the divisive mentality of 'them and us'. I thought that Simon Busuttil could truly bring change." As the crowds booed at the mention of Busuttil's name, Bonello paused and started nodding his head. "You are right and I was wrong because Busuttil's party is much worse than Gonzi's. Instead of renewing the party, Busuttil chose a mentality of division. They spent four years throwing mud, hurting Malta outside its shores, with no care for the consequences." Bonello said that, at the first opportunity to show it had changed, the PN failed and ab- stained on civil unions legisla- tion. "The U-turns we are seeing today are unbelievable. A U- turn on IIP, civil unions and now U-turn on Egrant so he can avoid responsibility." Bonello also warned that they could expect "more lies" from the PN: "Trust me, I know these people and when they lie, it's a big one." maltatoday, MONDAY, 22 MAY 2017 News Do you really trust any one of them? The Director and Registrar of the Civil Courts and Tribunals Civil Courts and Tribunals Courts of Justice Valletta Busuttil is much worse than Gonzi's – Bonello Country losing its reputation – Briguglio CONTINUES FROM PAGE 1 "I met Simon a number of times and I must admit that he impressed me in a number of ways," he said. "I can assure you that Simon is a leader that listens. One that listens to the aspira- tions of Maltese and Gozi- tan people and not just the two people closest to him." He said Busuttil was a leader with a social con- science and one that was putting forward propos- als that are "fitting of our country". "He is also a gentle per- son. We need gentle peo- ple, not bullies," he contin- ued. "We need people with integrity. With Simon, you know where you stand. He is the only person that can bring normality to this country."On the other side, he said, was Joseph Muscat, whom he described as a bul- ly and a leader who is afraid. "He is so afraid that he couldn't last five years," he said. "He had to call an election to save his skin and Keith [Schembri's]." He argued that it seemed as if Schembri was the man who was really leading the country despite the fact that he had not been elect- ed by the people. Briguglio said that Malta's crisis was constantly grow- ing and the country was losing its good reputation with every passing minute. He said Malta was making headlines for all the wrong reasons, companies were leaving the island and for- eign banks were blacklist- ing the country. "We have whole sectors worrying because of the shadow that has been cast over the country," he said, adding that this was only happening because the Prime Minister was "afraid of his chief of staff ". He said that people want- ed to live in a normal coun- try, a country where assets were not constantly being sold off. Briguglio said that the country was going through "one of those moments" where it needed to make im- portant decisions. "We must unite and con- vince people with the power of persuasion and by being gentle, like Simon. We must convince floating voters, switchers and new voters," he concluded.
