15 WHAT'S ON WHAT'S ON TODAY Sciacca Sicilian Short Film Festival The Sciacca Sicilian Short Film Festival depicts how short film cinema emanating from Italy and Sicily is a journey through the heart of the Mediterranean and like their culinary delights. The short films are a fusion of narrative, experimental, docudrama and animation. Taking place at Malta Postal Museum & Arts Hub at 8pm. Midweek Session A 12-hour music session played by Mama's Boy, Lo, Allekshhh and Milos Bogdanovic. Happy hour on coctails from 6-8pm. Starting time 2pm at Playa Del Sol. How to Be Maltese in An Hour - The Comedy Show A comedy show written, directed and produced by The Comedy Island that is set to teach visitors about traits of the Maltese. Tickets available at http://www. ticketline.com.mt/bookings/ I Drink to Thee A theatrical piece exploring the notion of dreams and the state of unconsciousness. Inspired by the Shakespearean character of Juliet Capulet, I Drink to Thee is an imaginative and visual- physical piece which challenges the perception of time and space through movement and sound. Doors open at 8pm at Velletta Campus Theatre. EXHIBITIONS AUGUST 10 British Museum: Hokusai An exclusive preview of Hokusai: Beyond the Great Wave. The filmic analysis is based on the life, work and times of the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, best known for his iconic woodblock print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Screening at St James Cavalier at 7:30pm UNTIL AUGUST 10 A Tranquil Star Collective exhibition of international artists at the newly-reopened Malta Contemporary Art, 12, Felix Street, Valletta. Featuring the work of Anthea Hamilton (UK), 2017 Venice Biennale artist Salvatore Arancio (Italy) as well as Basim Magdy (Egypt), Haris Epaminonda (Cyprus) and Nicholas Byrne (UK). UNTIL AUGUST 18 Arbang Exhibition of photographs, radiographic imaging and thread by David Grima at Spazju Kreattiv at St James Cavalier, Valletta. The exhibition has an environmental bent, and is supplemented by literary text penned by Clifford Jo Zahra. UNTIL AUGUST 20 Extant An exhibition on an array of topics linked together by the theme of digital media being held at Spazju Kreattiv at St James Cavalier, Valletta, every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. LITERATURE AUGUST 24, 25, 26 Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival 2017 The 12Ith edition of the Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival organiSed by Inizjamed at Fort St Elmo, in Valletta, at 8.00pm. Twelve writers from eight countries are reading in the festival, which also features Maltese and foreign poetry films, Maltese jazz bands, a book stall, a book binding stand, drinks and food. Entrance to all events is free. The authors participating are Asja Bakić (Bosnia Herzegovina), Mourid Barghouti (Palestine), Lilia Ben Romdhane (Tunisia), Jean Portante (Luxembourg), Zoë Skoulding (Wales), Ma Thida (Myanmar), Arvis Viguls (Latvia), Gjoko Zdraveski (Republic of Macedonia), and John Aquilina, Mark Camilleri, Immanuel Mifsud, and Alfred Sant from Malta.
