VISUAL ARTS UNTIL SEPTEMBER 1 Curatorial School Now approaching its 4th edition, this intensive one- week programme invites practitioners and students involved in a variety of related areas, such as fine arts, art education, arts administration, curation, and history of art to participate in lectures and workshops delivered by international guest speakers. The 2017 edition will employ an interactive model, incorporating workshops and a hands-on approach into the lecture programme. Organised by the Valletta 2018 Foundation. MUSIC THURSDAYS UNTIL SEPTEMBER 21 Jazz Nights at Pjazza Regina Following last year's successful run of events, our Jazz Nights will be returning to Caffe Cordina, Valletta every Thursday until September 21 at 20:00. A five-piece band will once again create a lively atmosphere with jazz classics and original improvisations for three hours. SEPTEMBER 1 1st September Annual Concert Mellieħa's Choral and Orchestral Society 'Maria Bambina' will be holding its annual concert at 20:00 in the Mellieħa Parish Square. This concert has become a trademark of the Victory Day celebrations, having had its first edition in 1992. It will cover various musical styles, ranging from classical to contemporary music. Along with its renowned choir and orchestra, and under the baton of Mro. Kenneth Fenech, the concert will feature singers, dancers, and other personalities. Admission is free. SEPTEMBER 2 Jazz Do – 5th Edition Evening of jazz music at the Mgarr Harbour, Gozo from 20:30. Featuring two Maltese groups and a Sicilian trio who will be playing smooth jazz along the night. Entrance is free. The 'Jazz Do' nights aim to give space for the promotion of jazz music in Gozo. SEPTEMBER 2 The Velts & Cryptic Street Evening of altenative rock music at The Funky Monkey, Manoel Island. The Velts and Cryptic Street will be accompanied by a DJ set from Steve Meli. First band starts at 22:30. Entrance is at €5 at the gate. SEPTEMBER 23 Rotting Christ in Malta Acclaimed Greek metal band Rotting Christ will be performing at The Garage in Zebbug, together with X-Vandals and Decline The Fall. Doors open at 20:00. THEATRE UNTIL SEPTEMBER 7 How to Be Maltese in An Hour – The Comedy Show A comedy show written, directed and produced by The Comedy Island that is set to teach visitors about traits of the Maltese. Tickets available at https://www. showshappening.com/ Grapevine-Music/Phantom- Of-the-Opera MISCELLANEOUS SEPTEMBER 1-3 Malta Film Expo The Malta Film Expo is a new event organised by the Malta Film Foundation bringing together enthusiasts and practitioners of film with exhibitions, discussions, film screenings of both the cinema of yesteryear and the realities of today's industry. It will be taking place at Spazju Kreattiv at St James Cavalier, Valletta at 10:00. The event is supported by the Cultural Partnership Agreement through Arts Council Malta and forms part of the Spazju Kreattiv programme. SEPTEMBER 2 Malta International Food Festival – Gozo Edition Over 10 food stands selling a host of culinary delicacies from all over the world in a Gozo edition of Malta's most popular food festival – The Malta International Food Festival. Taking place by the Xewkija Parish Church from 17:30, the free street food festival has a focus on inclusivity. Taste the authentic Asian cuisines, the fresh Mediterranean delights, best of Europe and genuine Gozitan delicacies. SEPTEMBER 16 Brotherhood: A Story of Metal in Malta Premiere screening of locally produced documentary on the Maltese metal music scene at Embassy, Valletta at 10:30. THURSDAYS UNTIL SEPTEMBER 28 Maltese Nights at Valletta Waterfront Take in the scenic Grand Harbour views and re-live traditional Malta at Valletta Waterfront every Thursday evening until September 28. Activities include traditional folk dancing, falconry displays, "terramaxka" (street organ) music, artisan market stalls, as well as duelling parades between the Knights of St. John and the Ottoman Turks, amongst other activities. SEPTEMBER 29 Eden Comedy Club's 17th Stand Up Comedy Night Stand-up comedy night featuring international comedians Tamar Broadbent and Al Lubel at Eden Cinemas, St Julian's at 19:30.
