44 Events maltatoday SUNDAY 17 DECEMBER 2017 BNF Bank plc appoints new Chief Operating Officer and Chief Risk Officer BNF Bank plc, announces the ap- pointments of Adrian Coppini as Chief Operating Officer and Maruska Buttigieg Gili as Chief Risk Officer of the Bank. Coppini joined BNF Bank plc, formerly Banif Bank (Malta) plc, at its inception. Leading the Bank's HR and Corporate Services department, he held responsibilities in people man- agement, properties, administra- tion, marketing and communica- tions. Additionally, he served on the Bank's Executive Committee and Board. Coppini has held several senior management positions in the air- line, electronics and investment promotion sectors. He was Chief Officer of HR and Corporate Services at Air Malta plc, Man- aging Director at Ero Electronic (Malta) Limited and Executive Company Secretary at Malta En- terprise Limited, amongst oth- ers. He also served as the Board Director of Air Malta plc and Société Internationale de Télé- communications Aéronautiques (SITA), and was elected SITA Council Deputy President. He currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Sacred Heart College Foundation, where he chairs its Finance Committee. Coppini holds a degree in Busi- ness Management from the Uni- versity of Malta. Buttigieg Gili also joined BNF Bank plc at its inception, setting up the Bank's Compliance and Internal Audit functions. She also occupied the roles of Money Laundering Reporting Officer and Compliance Officer. Subse- quently, she was appointed Head of the Internal Control Depart- ment responsible for the Legal and Compliance Unit, the Risk Control and Oversight Unit and the Credit Analysis Unit. Prior to joining the Bank, Butt- igieg Gili worked at the Central Bank of Malta for over 12 years. During this period, she occu- pied various positions within the Bank's Human Resources and Economic Statistics depart- ments. She represented the Cen- tral Bank of Malta on various working groups of the European Central Bank in relation to sta- tistics. Buttigieg Gili graduated in Fi- nancial Services (UMIST) and holds a Masters in Economics from the University of Malta. Buttigieg Gili and Coppini join Michael Collis, BNF Bank's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, as members of the Bank's Executive Manage- ment team. Maruska Buttigieg Gili Journalist Godfrey Grima honoured with Gieh ir-Repubblika award JOURNALIST and communica- tions specialist Godfrey Grima, whose broad career propelled him to international recognition, has been presented with the Ġieħ ir- Repubblika award – a medal for service to the Republic. Grima is also the founder of TBWA\ANG, the advertising agency originally known as Associated News Ltd. The award was given to him on the day commemorating the 43rd anniversary of the Republic dur- ing a ceremony held at the Presi- dential Palace in Valletta. Born in Żejtun in 1942, Grima started his career as a reporter for Il-Ħaddiem. He later moved to the home of journalism – Fleet Street in London – synonymous with the UK's leading newspa- pers, to serve as one of the Finan- cial Times' Foreign Desk early re- cruits back in 1968. It was at the Financial Times that Grima spe- cialised in political and economic news analysis for which Financial Times foreign correspondents be- came internationally renowned. In 1971, the Financial Times opened an office in Malta in a bid to cover activities in Libya, the West and in the Mediterranean, including military activities. The office was led by Godfrey Grima. During this time, Grima also set up Associated News Ltd, today known as TBWA\ANG, a leading, innovative, PR, communications and creative agency known for popular advertising campaigns for prevalent renowned brands. He eventually retired from his role as foreign correspondent with the Financial Times in 2010 but went on to serve as the agen- cy's chairman until 2015 when he passed on the role to his daughter Julianne. Grima, who is currently a senior member of the agency's board, is also a long-standing member of the Malta University council and serves as a consultant to individ- uals and companies, both in the public and in the private sectors. The commu- nal dining allows groups and families to celebrate great food together and create happy memories. The restaurant's new graphic elements meld and layer with the architecture setting a tone that uniquely celebrates the craft and pas- sion Pizza Hut have for pizza. Elements such as pizza peels and rolling pins add a casual layer of authenticity and hu- mour. GO employees volunteer at YMCA Msida shelter GO employees completed the refurbishment of the commu- nal areas at Dar Niki Cassar, the YMCA's shelter for the homeless in Msida. Accommodating 30 residents, the shelter is part of the range of services offered by YM- CA to the homeless. These range from the allocation of food and clothing to psychotherapy and counselling. The initiative was organised by the GO Cares team who manage the GO Cares Employee Fund which is financed by em- ployees' donations. The refur- bishment included both redeco- rating the shelter's communal areas, which was all done by GO employees, and the supply of new furniture. The GO Cares Employee Fund is an initiative through which GO employees voluntarily do- nate a small contribution from their salary on a monthly basis. This generates some €15,000 annually which GO employees are then able to use in order to support various worthy causes.
