maltatoday WEDNESDAY 17 JANUARY 2018 Sport 20 SPORTTODAY ATHLETICS HOUSE of Sport 10k Series have built a strong reputation for their choice of running routes and the second edition of the Three Cit- ies route certainly did not disap- point the hundreds of runners that took part. The harbour inlets of Vitto- riosa, Cospicua and Senglear set the scene for the fast and flat 10km route, which saw ath- letes run along the waterfront promenades of this, fast growing in popularity, waterfront area. Steeped in history and acting as a backdrop to Malta's Grand Harbour it comes as no surprise that this race, the second one to be organised has drawn the crowds. It was a three horse race be- tween Charlton Debono, Mario Grech and Mark Herrera from the very start with Debono lead- ing the way and Herrera hot on his heels. On the second turna- round point Mario Grech inched closer to Debono gaining time over Herrera. There was no change in placings from there onwards with Debono winning the race with a thirty three second advan- tage over Grech. Despite valiant efforts Herrera was not able to gain ground on Grech and he finally had to settle for third place. Josann Attard Pulis claimed honours in the Females' category. Not only did she win the race but she also improved her time from the previous year by approxi- mately thirty seconds. Jolene Debattista claimed second place. Debattista has been registering regular improvements in the series. Joanne Gauci showed a good pacing strategy throughout the race to slowly overtake a number of run- ners and claim third place. "As we start the third year of the House of Sport 10k Series, it becomes increas- ingly challenging to ensure that our athletes expectations are met. Our races have become synonmous with innovative, scenic yet safe routes as well as the quality mer- chandise that is given out to all participants" explained Charlie Demanuele, Race Organiser and Director. "This year we are work- ing on some surprises so we keep on generating more interest from our loyal athletes as well as attract new ones to the fold". The House of Sport 10k Three Cities Edition is supported by Ur- ban Jungle House of Sport, emvigee pr & marketing and Starmax. All races are timed electronically via ARRTS Timing System. The organisers of the House of Sport 10k Three Cities Edition are grateful for the support shown by the Cospicua, Senglea and Vitto- riosa Local Councils, Transport Malta as well as members of the Po- lice Force who assisted throughout the race, and last but not least to the volunteers and medical professionals who were present on the day. The next race in the 2018 Series will take place on Sunday 18th February and will be the Ladies Only Race – Registration is open and can be done online - http:// ladies2018.10kseriesmalta.com/ 2018 House of Sport 10k Series starts with sell-out crowd in the Three Cities PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANGIE CONTI
