This scheme allocates €10 million in funds, to assist in the regeneration of our village core areas whilst also promoting investment in the restoration, conservation and maintenance of Malta and Gozo's built heritage. The scheme is open for privately owned residential properties located within Urban Conservation Areas and scheduled Grade 1 or 2 residential buildings. PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY FOR PLANNING AND THE PROPERTY MARKET MATTHEW AGIUS A man from Mali who used a friend's passport to visit Malta and renew his Italian identification documents was yesterday jailed for im- migration offences. Amadou Keita, 30, from Mali used a Malian passport issued to Ousmane Toure to make the trip. Magistrate Donatella Fren- do Dimech was informed that he had wanted to renew his Italian immigration doc- uments, but was not swayed by this explanation. "Sir, security of the island is part of the State's obliga- tions towards its citizens, so when one tries to circumvent this, the court cannot toler- ate such actions." Keita pleaded guilty. The court noted that the accused was not a first time offender. "His stint in jail does not seem to have convinced him to obey the law," observed the magistrate as she sen- tenced him to two months in prison. magius@mediatoday.com.mt Jailed for using friend's passport on trip to renew immigration documents The accused – a repeat offender – pleaded guilty to immigration offences MATTHEW AGIUS A woman was remanded in custody yesterday after being arraigned on drug trafficking charges. Sabrina Grech, 27, from Slie- ma was charged with traffick- ing and possession of cocaine, heroin and cannabis on 1 April and the months leading up to that date, in a number of loca- tions. Inspectors Jonathan Ransley and Mark Mercieca arraigned the woman before magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech. Grech was nervous and in tears as she stood in the dock. She told the court that she is unemployed. She pleaded not guilty. Bail was not requested. Lawyer Noel Bartolo ap- peared for Grech during her arraignment.
