MOTORING & BOATING M8 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 17 JUNE 2018 ESTABLISHED in 1954 as Ha Dong Hwan Motor work- shop, what is today known as SsangYong Motor Company, has undergone 64 years of rapid transformations and develop- ments in order to attain interna- tional reach and recognition. As a result of SsangYong's success, the company has synonymously acquired the motto of being 'the oldest Korean vehicle brand that has been making 4x4 vehicles since 1954'. Respective to SsangYong's continuous global expansion and, following many weeks of preparation, on Monday 11th June 2018, SsangYong Motors Malta Ltd. hosted the inaugura- tion of SsangYong at its state of the art showroom in Attard. Upon reaching SsangYong's showroom in Attard, guests were enthusiastically greeted and guided to the first floor showroom for the major unveil- ing of the brand's product lineup and showroom inauguration. To kick start the night's festivi- ties, Joon Bum Kim, who is the General Manager of SsangYong Motors, Europe, eagerly ad- dressed event attendees through a jubilant overview of Famalco Group's dedication towards the SsangYong brand whilst further shedding light on the exhilarat- ing news that Famalco Group shall also be the official distribu- tor for SsangYong Motors in Ire- land. This is a testament towards the confidence that has been de- veloped between both Famalco Group and SsangYong Motor Company where together, both entities are able to achieve more. Successive to the celebrated news of Famalco Group's ex- pansion into new territories, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, who was an esteemed guest at the event, gave an outstanding speech to event attendees. Within his speech, the Prime Minister placed noteworthy em- phasis on the fact that Famalco Group was established in 1994 by the three Mallia brothers in a small garage in Zebbug and, over the years, the organisation has successfully diversified its port- folio in order to cover both lo- cal and international expansion whilst boasting of a workforce comprised of over 250 employ- ees. Additional emphasis was placed on the fact that compa- nies like Famalco Group, which start out small and grow to larger proportions, successfully aid in Malta's booming economy. Following the Prime Minister's speech, event attendees were in- vited to witness the unveiling of a commemorative plaque which now acts as reminder of the sig- nificant investment and dedica- tion Famalco Group has towards progressing mobility in Malta and abroad. After the unveiling of the plaque, Rev. Joseph Mizzi pro- ceeded to bless the showroom following which, Muscat and Joon Bum Kim proceeded to unveil the first SsangYong car for the night – the company's trademark vehicle, the Rexton. The remaining four SsangYong vehicles – the Tivoli, XLV, Ko- rando, and Musso – were sub- sequently unveiled by relatives of the directors. In order to finalise the success of the night and as a display of appreciation, commemorative tokens were given to the Prime Minister and to Joon Bum Kim. The event proceeded with an enjoyable night of refreshments whilst attendees were provided with the opportunity to view the SsangYong vehicles up close. Simultaneous to the above event, the 11th June 2018 also marks Fapi Motors Ltd 20th year anniversary from when it was first founded. The inauguration of SsangYong Motors Malta em- bodies Fapi Motors Ltd's lat- est acquisition which stands alongside three of the com- pany's established and prestig- ious mobility brands including; Harley-Davidson, KTM and Husqvarna.
