In this world, a crippled king whose kingdom has crum- bled lives in a remote corner of an island called First in the wake of a bizarre mala- dy of mysterious origin with his two daughters. The King forces his younger daughter to work tirelessly, building rubble walls in strange meg- alithic-type configurations in a feverish attempt to stave off a return of the virus. UNTIL JANUARY 20 Shifting Context The Shifting Context exhi- bition was curated through an open call for young artists by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ. The exhibition seeks to explore the critical role of art in re- sponding to a rapidly chang- ing world, encouraging young artists to appropriate the theme of Relocation in their work, taking it elsewhere into new and unexpected territo- ries. Creativity entails look- ing at familiar things from a completely novel perspective and Shifting Contexts will encourage and sustain this approach. Shifting Contexts will promote a shared vision of the future of young people in accordance with the Na- tional Youth Policy - Towards 2020. UNTIL JANUARY 27 Vanishing Valletta In 1982 artist photographer David Pisani embarked on a personal project to docu- ment the city of Valletta and the surrounding harbour area with an emphasis on the so- cially deprived periphery of Valletta and the infamous red light district of Strait Street which he regularly frequent- ed. What started as a photo essay of the derelict buildings of the city and the dwindling activity in Strait Street would evolve into an epic documen- tation of Valletta spanning 29 years. All the photographs in this collection are fine art silver gelatin printed from the original negatives by the pho- tographer. UNTIL FEBRUARY 28 The Immortals of a City The Immortals of a City showcases 51 selected pho- tos from the vast quantity of works. These photos are not objective records of the sculptures, but rather stun- ning reinventions inspired by lots of reading and ref lec- tion on historical documents. The exhibition seeks to con- vey the inf luence and charm of European public artworks, by representing sculptures of European cities through photography, offering visi- tors an extraordinary taste of glimpses captured in these European cities, and inviting one to ref lect on life and mo- ments of history while pro- gressing toward the future. It has been exhibited in Beijing, Qingdao, Tianjin and other places in China, meeting with profound appreciation and interest in the historical, cul- tural and exotic diversity of the urban carvings, especially by many who have never been to Europe.
