A court decision has revealed how landlords with a favourable judg- ment of the court of constitutional jurisdic- tion, to evict tenants from rent-controlled properties, cannot pro- ceed with an eviction if the Rent Regulation Board does not means- test the occu- pants. PGS 2 -3 YANNICK PACE FORMER foreign affairs minister and former Labour Party deputy leader George Vella will be Malta's next pres- ident, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced on Tuesday. "I am proud of unanimous en- dorsement by cabinet and the La- bour parliamentary group. I am sure Dr Vella will be another unifying figure for our people and country," Muscat said in a tweet, adding that the deci- sion had been taken follow- ing "constitutional consulta- tions". Vella, 76, will be sworn in on the 4 April and will be Malta's 10th presi- dent, despite calls by the PN leader Adrian Delia for Muscat to nominate an individual from the opposition camp in the interest of national unity. MaltaToday had previously reported that the Zejtun doctor was initially reluctant to accept the offer, but had eventually agreed to to succeed Presi- dent Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. In addition to announcing Vella's nomination, Muscat thanked outgoing President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca for her "sterling work" over the last five years.
