15 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 29 MAY 2019 LISTINGS WHAT'S ON Today Emvin Cremona (1919- 1987): The man and his art Today, Heritage Malta is inviting the public to a lec- ture dedicated to renowned artist Emvin Cremona on the occasion of the 100th anniversary from his birth. The artist's family shall be present to share their memo- ries of Cremona as the event shall seek to present a differ- ent and more human facet of the artist, his public and private life. His works are found in several churches in Malta and Gozo, includ- ing Ta' Pinu Sanctuary. The World Health Organisation headquarters in Geneva and the UN headquarters in New York also house paint- ings by Cremona. Admis- sion is free of charge. Time: 18.30hrs. For more information, visit www.her- itagemalta.org Theatre JUNE 7 - 16 VII (Sette) Teatru Malta in partnership with FCN will be re-telling this monumental narrative through the eyes of Malta's Artists of the Year: The New Victorians. The sister duo, made up of Bettina and Philippa Cassar, will not only be composing the show but directing and performing in this one-of a kind outdoor musical at Fort St Elmo's Piazza d'Armi on the 7th, 8th, 9th,14th,15th and 16th of June in Valletta. Music MAY 30 – JUNE 2 Earth Garden Earth Garden is Malta's largest Alternative Music Festival held annually at the National Park in Ta' Qali since 2007, attracting over 25,000 true music lovers from around the World, spread over 4 days. This year held on 30 May – 2 June, it will feature 5 music areas and around 120 acts from around the World with an eclectic music fusion of World Music, Ska, Funk, Blues, Reggae, Alternative Rock, Dub, Hip-Hop, Psychedelic Trance, Techno, House, Electro, Drum 'n' Bass and more. JUNE 8 An evening with Bruce Dickinson NNG Promotions are proud to announce a special one-man speaking show by IRON MAID- EN singer, BRUCE DICKIN- SON in Malta on Saturday June 8 at the Sir Temi Zammit Hall, University Of Malta, Tal- Qroqq, Msida. Split into two parts, the first half of the show sees Bruce taking a humorous, often satirical look back at his colourful, roller-coaster life. Delivering compelling tales in his uniquely anarchic style and punctuated with photographs, he recounts anecdotes from the book, including numerous ris- qué stories which never quite made it to the final edit….. ! Fans can expect a startlingly sub- lime synthesis of soaring and unmistakable melodies and the virtuoso guitar playing of John Petrucci in a live performance that is big, long and diverse as only Dream Theater can make it. JULY 15 – 20 Malta Jazz Festival The 29th annual Malta Jazz Festival will be held from July 15 to July 20 this summer. The highlights for this year's pro- gramme are Kenny Garrett, one of the world's most renowned saxophone players, Jazzmeia Horn one of the most important jazz vocalists, who was nomi- nated for a grammy last year, Ozmosys featuring legendary jazz drummer Omar Hakim, one of the most versatile eclec- tic Jazz drummers who has col- laborated with Miles Davis, Dire Straits, Daft Punk and David Bowie and for the second time Chucho Valdés – the Cuban Jazz Legend, sixtime Grammy Award Winner, who will all be performing on the Main Stage at Ta' Liesse in Valletta. Talks 50 Years On From That First Step On The Moon "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". The most famous and disputed quote in history were uttered by Neil Armstrong as he stepped out onto the moon. Fifty years on from the day when the world was riveted by the glorious feat of exploring the frontiers of space, we will hear about the heart-stopping events, the hu- man drama and the power of perseverance which lead to the moon-landing. Our guest speaker for the night will be Gordon Caruana Dingli a sur- geon who has followed manned spaceflight since the flight of Apollo 8. Event starts at 7.00 pm.
