30 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 4 AUGUST 2019 SPORTS SWIMMING Debono Grech, Satariano take full honours at the Arena BSJ Open Water Swimming Championships THE final race of the Arena BSJ Open Water Swimming Championships took place yesterday in Salina. The 4-kilome- tre race wrapped up the season for 2019, which saw increased participation from previous years. Nearly 70 swimmers took part in the last race of the season, which also served as a qualifier for the forthcoming Festina Malta – Gozo – Malta and Gozo Malta Open Water Swims. Stefano Debono Grech and Leah Satariano continued their winning streak and were the top two swimmers out of the water. In the Males' Category it was the Under 14 Luca Vella who finished in second place, followed by veteran Robert Vella who completed the podium. Meanwhile in the Ladies' Race second to take her place on the podium was Adriana Ferreira Massa. She was followed by triathlete Hannah Cutajar, fresh from her overall win at the European Sprint Triathlon Age Group win in Kazan, Russia. WEIGHTLIFTING ANOTHER great result for Malta weightlifting with a bronze medal at the European Masters Games in To- rino. The multi-sports games saw Mas- ters category (35 years+) from all over Europe compete in various sports in- cluding weightlifting. Matthew Camilleri, who turned 35 last January, competed in the 89kg category and managed to finish in 3rd place overall with his 105kg snatch, 130kg clean and jerk and 235kg total. The veteran athlete was accompa- nied on the podium by the Ukrainian athlete in first place and the Polish athlete who finished in second place.
