15 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 4 SEPTEMBER 2019 LISTINGS WHAT'S ON Theatre 4-13 OCTOBER Certified Male Certified Male will soon be produced for the first time in Malta by Exit Stage Right, known for previous success- ful productions such as I Am My Own Wife, and Every Bril- liant Thing. Certified Male was penned by award-win- ning Australian writers and performers Scott Rankin and Glynn Nicholas. For its Mal- ta debut, Certified Male will be co-directed by Nicholas himself alongside local thea- tre veteran Nanette Brim- mer, and will star renowned performers Alan Montanaro, Alan Paris, Joseph Zammit and Stephen Oliver. Certi- fied Male is produced by Exit Stage Right and is being per- formed at the Teatru Salesjan, Sliema on 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 October 2019. 14 OCTOBER The Rite of Spring The premiere of the bal- let in 1913 caused a scandal. Commissioned by Diaghilev, the work describes a pagan ritual where a virgin dances herself to death. The riots that ensued in the theatre were a reaction to Stravin- sky's jarring rhythms and complex innovations, Nijin- sky's exotic choreography and Roerick 's bizarre set- tings. The Piano Concerto by fellow Russian Rachmaninoff is contrastingly full of lyrical melodies. Often described as the greatest piano concerto ever written, the work is full of dialogue between orches- tra and soloist. The event starts at 8pm.
