maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 23 OCTOBER 2019 12 CULTURE COMIC CON THE Malta Comic Con 2019 is the place to be for all comics and pop cul- ture events. Wicked Comics, the organisers be- hind the 11th edition of the Malta Comic Con, said that there is some- thing for everyone to enjoy, including workshops, talks, discussion panels, signings, and product launches. Malta Comic Con is being held at the MFCC in Ta' Qali on 2 November (10am-6pm) and 3 November 2019 (11am - 7pm). Below is a highlight of some of the events planned. For children aged five to 11 years The Malta Libraries and Graphic Nov- els Library Malta stand will have read- ing sessions with a difference! All ages welcome and costumes encouraged. Tim Perkins will offer two children workshops in the morning for those in- terested in learning how to draw comic characters. The popular workshop "Become a Superhero" will once again make its appearance at the MCC 2019. Children can visit the stand and make their own mask and cape with the help of two masked Super Heroines. For gamers Game Defined will be running vari- ous gaming tournaments on different gaming platforms especially a Tekken Tournament. A Super Smash Bros Ulti- mate Singles Tournament and a Mario Kart 8 Delux tournament is also avail- able run by Nintendo Gamers Malta. Various other Gaming consoles and re- tailers will be available too. Exhibitions and photography area: One can find a Dragon Ball Figure Collection exhibition and the artwork exhibition by Tim Perkins entitled "Worlds End: The Science Fusion Exhi- bition" showcasing a small selection of artwork from the graphic novels series 'World's End'. This year a special, new and improved Photo Area will also feature some props from popular movies and series. Table-top gaming and arena For those hardcore table-top gamers, The Dungeon group will be running sessions of Dungeons and Dragons and various other demos. W.A.R.S. will once again be present at the MCC with demonstrations and tutorials of Blood Bowl. On both days they will have an RPG scenario for visitors to participate in entitled Stranger Things Dungeons and Dragons. M.E.R.C.S will have their own arena showcasing swords and shields fighting which is of course, family friendly. Invent 3D will be hosting at their stand, a workshop about using 3D printing for Cosplay and Tabletop Gaming. Talks and Discussion Panels: "Why Comics?" by Raphael Borg is a talk discussing the nature of comics and their place in modern day. "Kamen Rider for beginners" a talk by Mikhail Scicluna about this popular Japanese Toku show. "Doing Youtube" - local you-tuber Ashley Peschel discusses the Pros and Cons of having a You-Tube channel. New this year is a talk by Dr Anto- nio Ghio entitled "IP Law 101" where creators can discuss and ask questions about Intellectual Property Law. "Horror of the Hulk" is a talk with Al Ewing about this ground breaking Hulk series on Sunday 3rd November. 1Up Club, the University Pop Culture group will also be giving a talk about the state of pop culture at our University of Mal- ta. "Let's Talk Comic Writing" is a dis- cussion panel between three MCC 2019 guests: Ron Marz, John Layman and Al Ewing moderated by Dennis Whittle and Chris Thompson.
