Fresh from spectacular concerts through- out 2018 (such as MCO Pop, Suċċessi Maltin, L-Għanja tal- Poplu | Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija and MCO Pink October Concert to mention but a few) the Malta Concert Orchestra – conducted by Maestro Joe Brown – will continue to im- press with its versatility this time with the best of Pop, Rock and Soul, featuring music by Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, Joe Cocker, The Beatles, Tina Turner and more. This concert will be held in- doors at the Teatru Istitut Kat- toliku in Floriana. Students and senior citizens may benefit from special discounts for the November 16 concert. Festivals 15-24 NOVEMBER ZiguZajg Festival The 9th edition of ŻiguŻajg Festival returns with a fantastic line-up of no less than twenty- one projects and nine creative forms! The selection has a nice balance of new Maltese works together with some of the best touring shows, including five commissions by foremost lo- cal artists, five co-productions with national public cultural organisations, and no less than eleven international projects from around the globe. The 2019 Festival programme ini- tiatives vary from a brand new promenade music theatre show which will also tour schools, to a daring contemporary circus act, award-winning films, an opera with loads of humour, a re-adaptation of an iconic lit- erature classic, and a number of outdoor happenings. Visit https://www.ziguzajg.org/ for more information. UNTIL 10 NOVEMBER The Malta Book Festival The Malta Book Festival is an annual cultural event held in Valletta, Malta. The Festival celebrates the wonder of books through a wide programme of family-friendly activities – including book launches and presentations, poetry and lit- erature readings, meetings with authors, dramatisations of liter- ary texts, and conferences and seminars. The festival also of- fers extensive networking op- portunities for professionals in the book world. This year round, one of the highlights of the Festival is the opening conference revolving around the literary genres of sci-fi and fantasy. The conference will be led by a number of local and overseas authors. Among them is Loranne Vella, the Brussels based author of Rokit (Mer- lin Publishers) and winner of the 2018 National Book Prize. The fesival will take place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. For more information about the Malta Book Festi- val, visit https://ktieb.org.mt/ national-book-festival/ Music 14 NOVEMBER Operetta Highlights Bulgarian-born soprano An- driana Yordanova will grace the Refectory at Palazzo Falson to sing vivacious excerpts from some of the well-loved operet- tas that are entertaining, satiri- cal and witty. She will be singing delightful arias from the famous operettas 'Giuditta' 'The Merry Widow' and 'Paganini' all writ- ten by the composer Franz Lehár and other wonderful songs by celebrated composers such as Richard Straus and Robert Stolz, amongst others. Andriana Yor- danova will be accompanied by cellist Lucie Kucharova and vio- linist Philipp Orlov. The recital will be held on Thursday 14th November at 6.30pm. Entrance to the con- cert is at a suggested donation of 10 euro and patrons are in- vited to visit the museum at a discounted price. Get set to channel your 1970s disco vibe at Malta's fa- vourite party destination, in a one-night-only event that will feature the world-famous Bee Gees tribute band, the Satur- day Night Bee Gees. Other UNTIL 30 NOVEMBER The Human turned Divine On the occasion of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Mdina Cathedral Museum, the Cathedral Museum Com- mission is presenting 'The Human turned Divine', an exhibition of important cruci- fixes spanning the 15th to the 21st centuries. The items on display, many of which are be- ing exhibited for the first time, come from private, public and ecclesiastical collections. The exhibition, curated by art historian Maria Cassar B.A. (Hons), M.A., will be accom- panied by a publication.
