15 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 20 NOVEMBER 2019 LISTINGS WHAT'S ON Theatre 26 DECEMBER Comedy Knights 007: Licence to Laugh Every year, the Teatru Sales- jan in Sliema hosts what has become for many, a must-see Christmas tradition: The Com- edy Knights' annual Christmas show. It is a satirical sketch show that somehow manages to walk the line between silly and biting, while, at the same time, constantly being the funniest show on the island. This year's show is Comedy Knights 007: Licence to Laugh. The title of the show reflects the number of years the Comedy Knights have been producing this an- nual sketch show. It promises to be always original, always topi- cal, always on point and per- haps most importantly, always hilarious. The cast features some of Malta's strongest comedy per- formers, as well as characters that have managed to enter lo- cal popular culture. Audience favourites such as the Bormla Babes, The First Lady and the Sliema Girls, are certain to make an appearance, while a vast selection of other sketches inspired by Maltese society and way of life will complete the show. No extra shows are planned Festivals UNTIL 24 NOVEMBER ZiguZajg Festival The 9th edition of ŻiguŻajg Festival returns with a fantastic line-up of no less than twenty- one projects and nine creative forms! The selection has a nice balance of new Maltese works together with some of the best touring shows, including five commissions by foremost lo- cal artists, five co-productions with national public cultural organisations, and no less than eleven international projects from around the globe. The 2019 Festival programme ini- tiatives vary from a brand new promenade music theatre show which will also tour schools, to a daring contemporary circus act, award-winning films, an opera with loads of humour, a re-adaptation of an iconic lit- erature classic, and a number of outdoor happenings. Visit https://www.ziguzajg.org/ for more information. Music 29 NOVEMBER APS Teatru Unplugged 22 Back in 1998, the first ever edi- tion of Teatru Unplugged was born. Since then, as Maltese music evolved, the simple yet magical concept of the annual event stayed the same; five acts of diverse musical genres within one concert in a stunning thea- tre. This year marks the 22nd edition of Teatru Unplugged, which will be held in the iconic Teatru Manoel in Valletta on three different nights between Friday 29 November and Sun- day 1 December 2019. For more infor- moation visit https://www.face- book.com/teatru.unplugged/ 28 NOVEMBER Concert by the band of the Armed Forces of Malta The annual concert by the band of the Armed Forces of Malta in aid of Id-Dar tal-Provi- denza will this year take place at the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Paul in Mdina on Friday 6th December at 8.00pm. The con- cert will be under the distin- guished patronage of the Presi- dent of Malta, H.E. Dr George Vella who will also present the Mons. Mikiel Azzopardi Award 2019 to the winner who will be announced during the evening. The band is under the direc- tion of Twanny Borg with the participation of soprano Celine Abela and tenor Lbdr. George Zammit. The programme in- cludes works by Handel, von Weber, Rodrigo, Albinoni, De Haan, Reineke and Rutter as well as works by Maltese com- posers Carmel Callus and Ray Sciberras with arrangements by Capt. Other UNTIL 30 NOVEMBER The Human turned Divine On the occasion of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Mdina Cathedral Museum, the Cathedral Museum Commis- sion is presenting 'The Human turned Divine', an exhibition of important crucifixes spanning the 15th to the 21st centuries. The items on display, many of which are being exhibited for the first time, come from pri- vate, public and ecclesiastical collections. The exhibition, curated by art historian Ma- ria Cassar B.A. (Hons), M.A., will be accompanied by a pub- lication. The exhibition will be open during Museum hours from Mondays until the 30 No- vember 2019. 22 NOVEMBER Brushing Time An accidental find which took place in May 2017 at the site of Għar Dalam in Birżebbuġa led to further studies in order to understand better this intrigu- ing prehistoric site. On Friday, 22nd November, Heritage Mal- ta is inviting the public to learn more about these finds and to assist the curators in the clean- ing and documentation of some of the palaeontological and ar- chaeological finds from this ex- ercise. Tickets are priced at €20. Tickets are available from Her- itage Malta museums and sites, and online. For more information visit http:// www.heritagemalta.org/ 28 NOVEMBER A surprising collection of historic Malta maps Joseph Schiro, Honorary Secretary of the Malta Map Society, researcher and col- lector of maps will unveil Olof Gollcher's ensemble of antique and unusual maps of Malta and Valletta from the period of the Knights of the Order of St John up to the 20th century. Refreshments will be served to toast the Society's 10th anni- versary. Pre-booking is essential.
