maltatoday | SUNDAY • 2 FEBRUARY 2020 20 COMMERCIAL BANK of Valletta will be launch- ing the 27th edition of its Ret- rospective Art Exhibition cele- brating the works of Celia Borg Cardona and her bold, vigorous and expressive brushworks. The BOV Retrospective Art Exhibition will be hosted at the Gran Salon at the Auberge de Provence (National Museum of Archaeology) in Triq ir-Re- pubblika, Valletta. This mag- nificent baroque hall, a work of art in itself, is currently being meticulously restored through the support of Bank of Val- letta. It provides a wonderful backdrop for the works of Celia Borg Cardona. The exhibition will be inau- gurated by H.E. George Vel- la, President of Malta and will be open to the public as from 1 February till 4 March 2020 from 9 am till 5 pm every day with the last admission at 4.30 pm. The exhibition will feature 29 works of art showcasing the use of different media and fol- lows the evolution of Celia's work from 2002. The art of Celia Borg Cardo- na is usually concerned with the unusual viewpoint, very often of groups of people seen from a high viewpoint either casually strolling in streets or engaged in group activities such as processions and band marches, Maltese streetscapes and buildings, including iconic ones. She revels in the use of oil and acrylic paint, leaving as much evidence of her marks on the surface of the canvas as pos- sible. The exhibition curator Francesca Balzan said that she has been following Celia Borg Cardona's art practically from her first public showing many years ago. For an even more meaningful experience, Gallery Talks will be held with the art- ist herself on the 10th February at 10am and 11th February at 1pm. To participate in these Gallery Talks, kindly send an email to pr@bov.com. Book- ings are on a first come basis. WHAT does Carnival and football have in common? Not much, under usual circumstanc- es, but this is not the case for the Sliema Wanderers FC Nursery who has teamed up with Frank Salt Real Estate to organise the Frank Salt Real Estate Carnival Football Festival. The festival will take place between Saturday 22nd and Tuesday 25th February and will be held at the Sliema Wan- derers football ground in Tigne Sliema. Having been organised for a good number of years, the festival is nowadays a key landmark when it comes to the youth football activities' cal- endar. It brings together over 800 kids and teenagers from 18 clubs all over Malta who will be participating in various catego- ries, namely boys U7 to U14. The Frank Salt Real Estate Carnival Football Festival will see young players get together in a positive and enjoyable en- vironment while playing and putting what they have learnt during their training in prac- tice in a match,' commented Vince Galea, Sliema Wander- ers FC Nursery head coach, at the launch of the festival. "Each participant will also be presented with a certificate of participation." Frank Salt Real Estate be- came main sponsors of the Sliema Wanderers FC Nursery in September 2019. MALTA'S Interactive Science Centre, Esplora, is always on the look out to widen its horizons on Science Communication. Set up by the Malta Council for Science and Technology, Esplo- ra's aim is to promote informal education whilst also serving as a recreation facility appropriate for visitors of all age groups. The strategic values of Esplora aim to provide visitors with a place where they can realise the rele- vance of science and technology in their lives. By applying for funds through the KA1 Erasmus+ Pro- gramme; Learning Mobility of Individuals, Esplora was able to modernise and interna- tionalise its mission – that of instilling a culture of scientific curiosity and creativity within the STEAM fields. For this Erasmus+ Project, the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) partnered up with another two interna- tional science centres, being the Glasgow Science Centre situated in Scotland- United Kingdom, and Heureka, the Finnish Science Centre in Van- taa, Finland. These two centres were approached after the Ec- site Conference, a foundation bringing together over 350 organisations with the aim of instilling a culture of scientific curiosity. Participants attained a different perspective on how other science centres work, un- derstood team dynamics and delved into the management of operations. Throughout these job shadowing experi- ences the learning experiences were shared throughout Es- plora through train-the train- er sessions and information was disseminated with the rest of the staff. For each training and job shadowing event dif- ferent topics were discussed. Amongst the various benefits, by the end of the job shadow- ing events; staff members were able to better cater and focus their non-formal VET educa- tion outputs to the needs and wants of participants.
