maltatoday | SUNDAY • 5 JULY 2020 8 CULTURE Touring Filfla FOLLOWING the enthusiastic re- sponse for the first tour to Filfla, Her- itage Malta is inviting the public to join Senior Curator John J Borg on Saturday, 25 July, on an intriguing tour around Filfla during which he will reveal several interesting anecdotes about the history and wildlife of this island. How did this island form? From where did it get its name? Is it true that there was a chapel on Filfla? Why did the is- land attract pirates? How did it end up as a bombing target during the Brit- ish Period? Which species live on Filf- la nowadays? Why has the island been turned into a nature reserve? Participants will enjoy a boat ride while listening to these stories. The boat will leave from Sliema and head to Filfla. There will be no disembarkation on the island and no swimming will take place around Filfla. On its way back, the boat will stop for a short time for those who would like to swim, and then return to Sliema. Those attending are required to take food and drinks. A bar will be available on the boat with refreshments only. Participants are recommended to ap- ply sunblock and wear a hat. Temperature reading will take place and Heritage Malta reserves the right to deny access to anyone with a tempera- ture higher than 37.2 degrees Celsius, or if feeling unwell. Children should be su- pervised at all times. Price is set at €25 for adults, €20 for seniors and students, and €15 for Her- itage Malta members and children be- tween 6 and 11 years old. Participants are to meet at Sliema fer- ries at 09:15. The boat leaves at 10:00 sharp, with the tour planned to end around 15:00. The tour may be cancelled in the case of bad weather. The first edition of the project reflect- ed on people's need to affirm themselves as consumers. It questioned the effects of consumption on people as buy- ers and assessed the blurred line between 'consumption' and 'consumerism'. Both the research and the ar- tistic presentation took place in a supermarket in Malta in 2016-2017. YAWYB is cur- rently transitioning into a new stage, entitled YAWYB - A Remote ReVisit. As a starting point, the second edition of the project, having research as its main focus, is inviting the public to take part in an inde- pendent survey. The survey aims to capture the impact of COVID-19 on people's shop- ping and consumption expe- riences, relating to food and household products and din- ing-out, and how these might have changed and/or are still changing throughout the par- tial lockdown and post-lock- down periods. The survey can be accessed online through the project's Facebook page: You Are What You Buy. Alternatively, an ap- pointment can be scheduled by calling or messaging on 7921 3925 and the survey will take place over the phone. The pro- ject team will be responsible for the survey call expenses. The survey can be filled in by adult individuals. The data will be processed by project artist Kristina Borg and anthropologist Dr Virgin- ia Monteforte to highlight any emerging common patterns. All information will be treated as confidential and anecdotes anonymised. Information will be used for research purposes which will be presented to the public in a creative manner later on this year. Participants may with- draw their response at any time. Should they wish to further collaborate in the research pro- cess they will be asked to share their contact details at the end of the survey. The compilation of the survey over the phone should take around 10 minutes. YAWYB - A Remote ReVisit is supported by Arts Council Mal- ta's Malta Arts Fund - Research Support Grant
