maltatoday | SUNDAY • 30 JANUARY 2022 14 Wide-ranging architectural design projects THE 3rd edition of the Malta Architec- ture and Spatial Planning Awards (MASP) has attracted over sixty entry projects which will now be evaluated by a jury pan- el composed of foreign and local experts from different sectors. The eight reputable members of the jury panel will be assisted by ten technical experts. The key aspects that are evaluated are the projects' form, function, innovative approach, quality and energy efficiency. For the first time, the public will be given a 2-week window period to vote for their favourite architectural and de- sign projects. Voting will be carried out through the award's website www.masp- awards.com.The project which receives the highest number of votes will win the Public Vote award. Under the patronage of the President of Malta, the MASP Awards celebrates the extraordinary contemporary work that some of Malta's best architectural and interior design studios have completed in recent months. The entries, that are spread over ten categories, highlight the work of pio- neering architects and interior designers as they strive to create architecture that will stand the test of time — for this dec- ade and the next. The Design Award for Good Architec- ture, Building and Structure received the highest number of entries. Eleven pro- jects will be eyeing the winner's medal in this category, which prize will go to the project which displays the highest quali- ty design and has therefore enriched and improved the existing context through the uniqueness of their innovative and creative design approach. The Rehabilitation & Conservation cat- egory, the Restoration category and In- terior Architecture category for Residen- tial Projects were also popular, receiving ten and eight entries respectively. For the second consecutive year, an en- couraging number of architectural stu- dents submitted their projects for the Urban Planning Concept Award. Such projects, still in concept stage, provide innovative planning solutions to address existing challenges in a given space. Six submissions were received from the public for the newly introduced Archi- tecture Photography Award. Besides receiving a credibility boost with both industry professionals and prospec- tive clients, each category award-winner is presented with an exclusive Kane Cali designer trophy inspired by the angular forms of Valletta's famed fortifications. Winners are given the opportunity to participate in a year long wide range of brand and PR initiatives. This year's award ceremony will be held on Saturday 26th February 2022 at the Hilton Malta in St. Julian's.
