7 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 27JUNE 2025 NEWS GOZO will host its first Masters Water Polo Tournament from 28 to 30 Novem- ber 2025, bringing veteran players from around the world to compete in a three- day event. Organised by Barracudas Sports Club, Balluta Young Boys (BYB), Comino Mas- ters, and Otters ASC, with support from VisitMalta and the Malta Tourism Au- thority, the tournament will take place at the newly built Gozo Aquatic Centre. The facility features an Olympic-size pool and modern amenities, marking a significant upgrade for the island's sports infrastructure. The competition is open to male play- ers aged 40 and above, divided into two categories: 40+ and 50+. Each team can register up to 15 players, with each par- ticipant required to pay a €125 fee. Teams will play a minimum of six matches un- der updated FINA water polo rules, with matches structured as a 5-minute warm- up followed by a 25-minute session. The tournament schedule is as follows: • Day 1 (28 Nov): 16:00 – 20:00 • Day 2 (29 Nov): 09:00 – 19:00 • Day 3 (30 Nov): 09:00 – 12:00 A welcome event featuring compli- mentary finger food and an open bar for participants is planned for the evening of 29 November. Travel arrangements include option- al transfers from Malta International Airport to Gozo, including the ferry crossing, daily shuttle service from rec- ommended hotels to the aquatic centre, and access to selected 3-star hotels. Ad- ditional excursions around Gozo will be available for players and guests at an ex- tra cost. The tournament is expected to boost sports tourism on the island and high- light Gozo's growing status as a hub for aquatic sports.
